I went because of Murakami's "Norwegian Wood" and found the park very pleasant. Looked romantic and perfect for cherry blossom, but they hadn't yet opened when I was there. But if you have no other interest in it than going to a park you don't need to take a train to Kichijoji to find one! Shinjuku Gyoen should be closer to almost anywhere.

If you want to get away from the tourist filled park like Yoyogi, Inokashira park is perfect for you. Just a 6 minute walk from the station and another 6 minute from ghibli museum, Inokashira park is beautiful to walk around during the day and night. You can visit a zoo, ride swan boats in the lake, check out shrines, and picnic during the day! It’s also an awesome place to visit during the cherry blossom season! Not many travelers know about this place, so I highly recommend any travelers to check this place out on your own. Unless of course you want someone to show you around and meet locals, do that as well. Overall, Inokashira park is a must see place!

This lovely park near the Ghibli Museum is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery. Boating on the lake is a lot of fun with row boats and pedalos available. We visited in Autumn and enjoyed the beautiful foliage. It's also nice to enjoy a spacious area after busy Tokyo streets. Cafe du Lievre is near/in the park if you fancy a pre or post stroll beverage and crepe. Inokashira Park zoo nearby is also a fun visit for the children and a chance to see Tanuki.

We came to this park after Ghibli Museum. It was so beautiful during the autumn. Pictures are enough to tell you the story!

You can go right through this park to and from Ghibli Museum as it’s on the way from Kichijoji Station. If you follow Google Maps it takes you around but you can cut through, the Ghibli Museum is sign posted within the park!

During this time of year (mid - end November) there are no cherry blossoms but plenty of orange and red leafy trees amongst the green!

It’s worth a slow wander through on a nice day, you can pass by the various areas including a pond (apparently an abundance of wildlife but we didn’t spot anything and on one side you can rent Swan peddle boats), Shinto shrine, play park, baseball field and just people watch! Plenty of benches if you need a rest too. Bring a picnic!
