This hotel is a very pleasant base to visit Bilbao and the coast for golf surfing. Good rooms and a good restaurant. In the area of the Hotel there are some nice restaurants (unfortunately most of them are not open on Monday and Tuesday). Friendly staff.

Stayed just one night at the Palacio Urgoiti before catching our ferry home, I paid £79 for a beautiful double room with private patio overlooking the golf course. The bed was HUGE and everything was absolutely 1st class !
The indoor pool was lovely and the water jets very theraputic in freeing up knotted neck muscles. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed when we stayed at the Palacio, however, the bistro bar provided a limited menu, and the food was not only extremely good, but very reasonably priced for such an establishment.

Can't recommend highly enough .... great for a long weekend ..... golf course, indoor pool, 15 minutes to the centre of Bilbao and the Guggenheim .......... and 10 minutes from the airport.

We picked this hotel because…
1) We needed to be close to Derio (5 mins drive) for a wedding & Bilbao (15 mins drive) for the airport.
2) Star rating (from our experience staying in Spain, avoid hotels with lower star rating)
3) Swimming pool (hotels with a pool in Bilbao area are quite rare)
4) Reasonable price
5) The quiet area, we didn’t want to stay in the City.

We were here for a wedding in a nearby town, so needed to be close to Airport & Derio.
The hotel is beautiful & in a beautiful area with lovely views especially at night.
It is a quite hotel however the walls are a bit thin so if you are a couple & there is a family staying in next room, you will hear everything & be woken up early.

We took a superior double with balcony overlooking the courtyard & it was very nice.
We enjoyed sitting on our veranda overlooking the view at night sipping vino.
-Bed - very comfortable.
-TV – One English language channel (CNN news) No DVD or facility to order a movie.
This would come in handy if having an early night or if weather is bad. Which is was during our stay for 4 days.
-Room - blackout curtains excellent. No tea/coffee making facility.
-Room service – Finishes at 11pm. No point ordering it to your room for €10 charge as its easier to pop down and get it yourself. They'll put it on a tray for you.
-Residents bar – None. It also closes at 11pm.
-Air Con - Not very good, bit noisy & didn’t cool the room
-Breakfast - we didn’t do breakfast as it didn’t suit us Mon to Fri it finishes at 10am.
We had several late nights with our wedding party so welcomed the good lie in.
-Bar – lovely bar area & very nice staff. Serves nice tapas & bar food.
Bar food main dishes are expensive for the portion you will get.
-Restaurant - very disappointing! It was closed. Would have expected it to be open at this time of year & we really relied on it.
-Pool – very cold, some jets (not very good) No changing area. Sun loungers were dirty.
-Staff - Very accommodating & friendly.
-Cleaning - rooms cleaned daily. We were very impressed with this. They did a great job.
HOWEVER! – They ignored the ‘do not disturb’ sign hung on our door some mornings.
They banged on the door as cleaning finishes at 1pm! Not good at all :(

You will need a car. The taxis are very expensive. Into Bilbao centre it was €33.00 & into Derio €25.00. This is because they put the meter on from moment of call out.
Our taxi arrived & already had €13.00 on the meter.
We gave the receptionist the exact address of where we were going & the taxi driver still got lost.

I do like this hotel & may use it again but I wouldn’t stay again for a week!
Don’t get me wrong, the hotel & rooms are beautiful.
There is simply just no-where to go & nothing to do. All be it we were here for a wedding in another area mind you & it was an amazing wedding a real basque experience :)

A trip to Getxo, San Sebastion, Plentzia is nice. But you need a car or need to know the public transport. Bear in mind most restaurants start serving dinner 9pm/10pm so if you want to eat dinner early evening its more likely to be tapas, tapas, tapas..... (most of which are not covered on the countertops). Hope this helps, its my honest oppinion.

Unless you are in Bilbao to play golf, this place should be avoided. There is little in the way of the usual Spanish hospitality, no welcome, no porter, no smile. The bar area is pretty but the food was average. The pool is small and inside and the sun deck is just a patch of concrete. It costs 30 euro to get a cab in to town and there is nothing around the local area. Don't bother.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights at the start of a 10 day driving tour of Northern Spain for a friends wedding . The location is little more than a 5 min drive from the Bilbao airport - but is very quiet. It is easy to find and to access the main road into Bilbao which is about 15 mins away. The hotel reception staff were friendly and allowed us access to our room when we arrived early. The room was big, clean and comfortable and a nice balcony looking onto the golf course (we were on the ground floor). The food in the restaurant on the one night we ate there was good quality, if a little expensive. On the whole, if you have a car, a good choice for a quiet out of town stay in Bilbao.

We arrived at the hotel late on Friday afternoon by car,There is a huge car park.
We had asked for a quiet room and the Belgian receptionist proceeded to tell us that there would be a wedding that evening at the hotel and another one the next afternoon. It is a perfect hotel for weddings. But she said there is a wing with rooms far from the wedding area where you will not hear anything. She was right.Apparently the last guests left when we got up and we did not hear anything. The dining room was booked up so we went down the road about 500 meters and found a very nice restaurant at the roundabout opposite the petrol station. It is only 10 minutes into Bilbao and you arrive right in front of the Guggenheim museum. After Bilbao sightseeing it is nice to come back to the hotel terrace and look out over the golf course. We had dinner in the restaurant the next evening while the afternoon wedding was taking place. The food was very slow, not so good and expensive.
The rooms are wonderful, very clean with nice bathrooms and a good seize.
Perhaps the dining room is quicker when there is no wedding going on but we would advise you to go down the road to the restaurant opposite the petrol station.
You can have good walks along the golf course and you are only 10 minutes from the airport.
In the dining room noone spoke English so the receptionist who was very helpful came to translate. The swimming pool was lovely and noone seemed to use it.It has no towels so bring your own ,it was closed in by windows but it was written that they remove these windows in July and August.
Altogether a lovely country hotel, perhaps someone should give the dining room a second chance.

about 15 minutes outside of the city of Bilbao, this hotel provides a beautiful, relaxation base for travels in the Basque country. Free outdoor partking available. There's a bus that picks up once an hour, so if you're not in a hurry, it's a nice ride into town through local neighborhoods. The bus does stop running around 9:30, though, so be aware, since dinner reservations may not be until after that. The hotel staff was very friendly, with lots of information and suggestions. The breakfast is very nice - we had ours on the beautiful patio. We didn't eat at the restaurant, so can't speak to that. The indoor pool/solarium is beautiful - make sure to take advantage. Overall, definitely recommended.
