Ok travelling with Audley Travel, this hotel is FABULOUS. Like nothing else you will visit. The entrance down a track strange but when you arrive. Reception, 10/10, guided to our room,aaaaaggghh veranda, view of the valley, all new, giant sized bed room 4, Llama in the garden, complimentary hot drinks, near hot springs, guided walk sometimes complimentary. Book for dinner , we did fantastic value. The managers and staff speak several languages. Remember hot in the day and cool evenings but lovely electric fire in the bedroom
Gorgeous towels, but try and use carefully as you are miles from anywhere. Stars from the veranda,limited parking but well worth a visit.

We stayed for 1 night and booked the "SHARED TOURIST TRANSPORTATION 2 DAYS 1 NIGHT AREQUIPA-COLCA-PUNO" from their website. Killawasi Lodge booked and coordinated an amazing 2 day tour for us with Colonial Tours. Colonial tours was excellent, had English speaking guides, and were very professional!

Leading up to the trip we really appreciated how responsive the Killawasi staff was through Whatsapp with any questions regarding our booking. Overall we loved our stay and experience. I would highly recommend!

For what to expect...
We were picked up in the morning at our hotel in Arequipa in a 15 passenger tour bus operated by Colonial Tours. We were so glad to have the smaller vehicle for the majority of this tour as we saw a lot of large tour buses on the road. After picking up everyone, the bus made a quick stop before leaving the city for people to buy water and use the bathrooms (bring your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer for this stop!)

During the morning we made various stops at view points, saw alpacas/llamas, and about half way through the morning made a longer stop for Inka tea (~4-5 soles cash only), bathrooms (1 sol for toilet paper), and to stretch our legs. We then continued ascending before stopping at Patampampa for amazing views of the volcanoes before descending into Colca Valley to Chivay. You will need 70 soles cash each to buy tickets to Colca Canyon while driving in.

This is where the Killawasi tour differs from the Colonial tour (which we were happy about!). While everyone else went to lunch, we were dropped off at Killawasi hotel to check in. We bought lunch at the hotel restaurant (the Quinoa soup was delicious!!) and then went on a hike to the Uyo Uyo ruins (need 5 soles cash each and your passport for entry to the ruins). Our tour guide was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable about the area and we had great conversation. You can also go to hot springs nearby (or can do both the hike and hot springs) if you want.

We had a triple room that looked out towards the center of the valley. The room was very clean with hot water for showers, a heater, and an absolutely beautiful view. The staff was very helpful when we needed anything as well. We loved the location and enjoyed great star gazing at night.

The next day our tour bus picked us up from Killawasi and took us to the Flight of the Condors and then a short hike/walk on a path along the canyon. We then made the drive back to where we stopped for Inka tea on the first day to make a transfer to a larger bus for the trip to Puno (also operated by Colonial Tours).

The bus back to Puno was very bumpy so if you get motion sickness be sure to sit near the front. The tour provided a few snacks and we made one stop about halfway for bathrooms (bring some soles cash and toilet paper) and to see Lagunillas Lake. Finally we transferred to a taxi (paid for by Colonial tours) in Puno to take us to our hotel.

Five minutes' walk from the town centre, this little oasis is wonderful. At night, there are just the moon and stars, and not a sound to disturb your sleep. The owners have gone out of their way to make this a really great hotel, and it is the ideal base from which to explore the Colca Valley. Bonus - Pedro the baby Alpaca grazes on the grass outside the hotel, and loves being photographed and petted.
