Had a new year gathering with my project members in the office. We started slightly before 16:00. Thought about just having several drinks at a bar; but they do have early bird course menu which is very cost effective. They are very famous crab meat restaurant throughout the nation, and thus, the quality is guaranteed - fresh and tasty. I have seen a lot of non Japanese customers in the restaurant. It makes sense for non Japanese tourists to come to this restaurant for quality Japanese crab meat restaurant with affordable prices. It is spacious and the service quality is at the Japanese standard, which is reliable. In my case, 5,000 yen includes an early bird course menu along with a beer and Japanese sake. The menu says they have menu available until14:00 and until 16:00 as early bird special, and we had one available until 16:00, which was 3,200 yen exclusive of tax. I might have had enough drinks; but it's truly recommendable.

The meal itself was great, crabs were so fresh and sweet, everything was perfect, please do not be fooled by small portions. At the end you will be so full....

The only regret we had was the service, some were very polite, some not so. Maybe due to language barrier, however overall was a great experience and food was great. Definitely will visit again!

If you like crab, this is the place. They have set menus. There are different type of crabs. Some are famous for their tomalley (green stuff inside the crabs) and some are famous for the meat. You will have to make reservations as it's very popular. The waitresses don't speak much English but they do have an English menu.

Google "Ginza 8 chome branch Kani Doraku" for the web site and you can make reservation online.

Lunch seems to be a good deal. Dinner is not cheap but it's good.

This was the Kani Douraku at the Ginza location (銀座八丁目店), one of the several locations of this crab restaurant at Tokyo. We decided not to go to the one at Shinjyuku because we found the one at Ginza more relaxed.
It was easy to find this place on the main street of Ginza as it has a huge crab billboard outside the restaurant. By the time we arrived the place was full and we were suggested to come back an hour later. So we went for some shopping on the same street and returned to enjoy a a crab feast.
The setting was quite spacious with open dining areas and Japanese
style private rooms to accommodate needs of individual and groups. We were happy to get our semi-private seats at the window. Quite a relaxed and comfortable ambience with soft lightings.

We were crab lovers but not picky.. As long as the crabs were fresh and meaty, we were satisfied. The Snow crabs, King crabs and Hairy crabs were all available here and price was different depends on what you ordered. It was quite expensive to order the whole crab. To play safe, the best deal we considered was the "seasonal special"
set dinner. The price for set dinners ranged from 5000yens to 10,000yens up. I picked the one around 7000yens with the crab hotpot. All the dishes were nicely prepared, tasty and crab shells professionally cut so you won’t need to struggle..
The steamed rice with crabs and ice-cream as dessert were included. What we enjoyed the most, in addition to the delicious crab legs/meat, was the green tea ice-cream and the preserved vegetable, I meant the Daikun.

Good service, nice setting, fancy eating, a little pricey but worthwhile. I won’t say that it was the best crab meal I have experienced in Japan, but it was one of the comfortable place to enjoy a pleasant crab dinner in the city of Tokyo.
Definitely will visit again.
