Lawry's is a very classy joint that may provide a very nostalgic experience for some but can also feel like a fading black and white photo of a wonderful place in time. The bar is quite nice and would be a great place to chill with a drink before dinner. It is lit well, quite masculine, and quiet enough to have a conversation.
Dinner at Lawry's does not have to be expensive, the Tokyo cut is only 3,000 yen and comes with a full plate of sides. It is not a large cut, more like the size you will get at a Sunday buffet, but it is delicious. The sides are very good and very reminiscent of a dinner at grandmom's house - if your gram made peas and mashed potatoes and was fancy enough to chill the salad forks.
This is a great restaurant that has not innovated very much in years and while the quality of the meal has not diminished it can feel very old fashioned. The staff is great, the menu is a bit limited (it is a prime rib restaurant after all) and the location is convenient if you are doing business in Ebisu Garden Place or staying at the Westin.
