It was my second time to dine in this small restaurant. It was a very busy lunchtime. My seat faced the corner of the kitchen, where all the used dishes were piled up. So a couple of dishes fell and broke into pieces. By the time we finished eating, the lunchtime peak was over. So the kitchen staff began to clear the used dishes. I didn’t enjoy the noodles as much as I did before, although the waitresses were cheerful and friendly.

My Japanese friend and I made an inquiry at the Tobu Department Store where we could eat a nice udon noodles. The staff directed us to go to Makabeya which was relocated from Lumine to Esola and showed us where the Esola building was. It was clearly seen beyond the escalator on the street level.
It was one of the small restaurants on the 6th floor. As my friend was familiar with the local foods in Akita Prefecture, she was quite happy to dine with me. Their udon was not soft like ordinary udon, but firm and shiny. As it was slipping out between the chopsticks and causing to spatter, my friend asked for paper aprons (bibs). The soup was very tasty with bonito fish stock and yuzu orange.
So I bought a packet of their special udon to bring back to Australia. It was expensive, but I knew that I would be able to enjoy the Akita flavour at home.
