Ueno is on the Yamanote Line and is typical Tokyo but it is worth a visit because the Ueno Park (and the Zoo). There are many places around Tokyo just like Ueno but worth a visit.

Way many place shops to go from food to souvenirs to food to clothes to shoes. Lots to see, lots to experience.

In Ueno, you get all you want in a day. We started early in the morning and enjoy the park and lake. Then off to the zoo or the museums (yes, there are more than 1). We visited the museum of science (600 Yen adults, Schoolchildten are free). Stayed until noon (soo many fun exhibits). Off to the Ueno Eki again where nearby a plethora of mom-and-pop shops sell literally everything you want. Then some shopping in a traditional way not on the malls but with the people shouting "irrashaimassee dozo okyakusamaaa". Fun indeed. When it gets a bit hot, go to an airconditioned shops such as the ubiqutous Uniqlo (Unikoroo). End this with having a picture in front of the loyal Hachiko statute and go home....

Ueno is nice area in Japan even it not offers you too many attractions. However, if you're coming in the Autumn/Fall, this is the most recommended area to visit. Yes, this area have that Ueno Park where people gathers to see beautiful Sakura in Autumn and yellowish leaf trees in Fall season.

Ueno also have Ameya Yokocho Shopping Street that sells a lot of things from foods to sport goods.

You can easily access Ueno from other places in Japan by take in JR Yamanote Line. Drop off at Ueno Station and you only need to walk 2 minutes to get here.
