we stayed here with our ladies camp for church, hard to find places that are a reasonable price to suit us all, and affordable. We used the pool, which we had to tell in advance so they could warm it up for us.
Only things l can say in our room, one bed was missing some slats so rather squeaky when anyone moved on it, and the front room was very dusty (not good on those allergic to dust), but had to be aired...
Bathrooms were clean and looked like they had been updated, but came with soap and bath towels to stand on, maybe a hand towel would be nice or some paper towel so you can dry your hands on.
Great location near the beach, great to walk to in the mornings or evenings, plenty of parking space for lots of cars.. if you are coming with a group. Spacious backyard with BBQs and outdoors tables... (not that we used it)...

But we were happy with it all.. with accommodation that is not too dear but comfortable too.

The room l stayed in someone had drawn on the wall, bit disappointing...but maybe venue owners have not seen this yet...

Perfect for large groups, families, for a weekend away

I celebrated my 40th birthday with friends and family at the Bay Play lodge property (including the cottage). Whist we very much enjoyed our stay at the property, it can certainly do with a little renovation.

The Good:
1. Size of the property
2. Secure backyard where children can play safely.
3. Very large kitchen with two sinks and two stoves/ovens.
4. Very large fridge (very old too but worked well).
5. The fact that there is a heated pool (additional notes below).
6. The bathrooms in the lodge seem to have been recently renovated.
7. The property was clean upon our arrival.
8. The staff are welcoming and easy to deal with.
9. Sufficient seating indoor and outdoor for a large group of people.

The not so good:
1. The inside of the cottage and the lodge had an old smell associated with it.
2. The pool can only be used when not used by the diving school (found out after deposit made) AND the contract does not stipulate that the pool is also used by the three boys from the family that owns the lodge. Their house backs onto the property.
3. A number of the fly screens are defective and have holes.
4. The mattresses are old and require updating.
5. Some of the couches certainly need to be updated.

Thanks for your comments. We are glad your birthday was an enjoyable weekend.

The shared pool is used by the dive school on a saturday morning when we suggest groups enjoy the stunning beach at the end of the street (500m). It is stipulated on our website and it is a bit hard to make sure all group members know the scenario, so we are working with this fact to keep all groups up to date and have taken your feedback on board. Normally our children are not in the pool whilst groups are in, but we do also enjoy the company of our guests especially when they too have kids. We do try and avoid the area for adult groups though, so apologies if the kids got in the way during your stay.

The accommodation is cheap, though it would have been nice to know that the pool is only available upon request prior to booking it on Agoda (this information was provided by management after booking). In saying that, Im not sure I would want to swim in it as it appeared not to be cleaned in a while (lots of muck could be seen on the bottom of the pool & perhaps this is why it is by request, to give them a chance to clean it).
Some maintenance is needed too, chunks of lino are missing on the floor, the reclining armchair does not work, the mattress on the double bunk is very springy & hard (the other bed is fine), no toiletries or hand towel are provided for the toilet/bathroom & there is lots of dust around. From what I can see, cleaning is done upon vacating the property but isn't not done again prior to arrival, which also means the cottage smells musty upon arrival & needs to be aired out.
But the property isn't all bad, I found it to have pretty good facilities, it was large and comfortable enough, centrally located & the staff I spoke to on the phone were amazingly friendly & helpful. Though my mother (who I took with me) said she wouldn't like to stay there again, my father & I would be quite happy to. So basically I would recommend this cottage to anyone who can handle basic budget accommodation but not to someone who thinks all the finer details should be attended to.

Room Tip: The Cottage: The BayPlay cottage is affordable & in a great location. Quiet as it is off the mai...

We were part of a large family group (ages 77 to 1 year old) and we all agreed that Bayplay was a perfect place for our get together. It was clean, spacious, near beach & shops, with double kitchen facilities, secure grassed area & a warm clean pool. The office staff who handled our various booking requests were friendly, helpful, efficient & endlessly patient! We would happily recommend it.

I stayed at Bayplay Lodge in July 2013. We were a group of seven families with fifteen kids (mostly aged between 2 and 8) and 14 adults. Bayplay Lodge was perfect for us. Each couple had a room each and we even had rooms left over to create a 'girls dorm' and a 'boys dorm'. With the two large living areas there was enough space for the kids to let loose inside or chill out on the bean bags with a movie! The garden was awesome, secure and large enough for them all to play and they loved the pool - even though it was pretty cold outside, the heated pool was warm enough for them to have a splash around. We had an awesome time, beds were comfortable, rooms were clean and the kitchen was well equipped. Close to the beach and shops I would definitely stay here again as part of a large group. The owners were really considerate and very helpful too!

This was our second Easter at Bayplay, and once again, a great time was had by all. There is plenty of room for everyone (25 adults, 8 children; age range 86 years to 8 weeks old).
Clean, tidy, plenty of rooms/bedding, clean kitchen, fenced off backyard great with kids, and plenty of parking to name a few.
The pool was a real hit, all the kids (big ones included!!) loved it.
Close to shops, and beaches, which is also a bonus.
Thanks for a great stay.
