I couldn't think of a better way to spend a relaxing weekend away, and it was as perfect as I pictured it!
We drove through Bowral to pickup some amazing produce, and local wines, but the relaxation really started when we went on the unbelievably smooth dirt road (puts Sydney CBD roads to shame!) to Melanie and Georges place. Arriving in the freezing cold on a super windy day, the ready to go fireplace was a pleasant surprise, as was the massive gas oven and fully stocked kitchen supplies which were put to perfect use for our roast dinner. The kids were in their own world, as were we for the whole time there. Kangaroos grazing, black cockatoos flying about, the odd wombat and even a fox. There were loads of walking trails, and also a river crossing "4wd/SUV" track that a city slicker like me could be confident in attacking for the first time.
The fireplace back in the cabin was a great place to sit, watch and contemplate what life here could be like, curled up with a good book, an even better glass of red and some amazing local cheeses.
My wife had a great massage by Melanie, and can't wait to be back. The only single small improvement I could suggest is to get rid of the mobile reception as my self-imposed will power to not touch the phone wasn't working!
We came here to reconnect and relax after some extended work travel, and we definitely did just that. I can't wait to be back!
A cosy and very quiet cottage on a farm away from everything. Warm. Comfy bed. Clean and tidy. Lovely
Comfortable well equipped cabin with everything we needed for our little ones. Beautiful, serene and peaceful setting. Nothing like watching the sunset with kangaroos grazing, then stargazing in front of the fire pit. Thank you for your hospitality Mel!
Our family of four with kids aged 5 and 8 stayed in this comfy cabin in Canyonleigh. The cabin is very comfortable - 2 bedrooms, comfortable beds and bedding (all new), TV + DVD, great kitchen (90 cm gas stove), washing machine, wood-oven for heating, BBQ outside on the verandah, and firepit. Our family enjoyed the large selection of board games (we did a 1000 piece disney puzzle during our stay). There are other thoughtful touches like extra blankets for snuggling on the couch, a picnic blanket and a pair of large umbrellas. It was lovely sitting on the verandah watching the breeze and kangaroos while the kids roasted marshmallows. There were heaps of kangaroos, though we missed spotting a wombat at night (a spotlight is provided for that purpose).
It is a 10-15 minute stroll past the pine trees (we collected some cones) to the river. We had a nice swim there, and breakfasted there one morning watching the mist, listening to the birdlife and glimpsed a platypus!
The kids enjoyed collecting eggs from the henhouse, and patting the horses, and generally wandering around the property. They also had a swim in the pool behind the main house.
Mel and George were great hosts. They were welcoming, available to answer questions, show us around and were generally concerned that we have a great time.
We drove through Bowral and visited the Exeter market where we stocked up on country chutney and salami and garlic.
