Our canoe trip through Northern Edge Algonquin was unforgettable! Our guide, Chris, made it stress-free and enjoyable from the start to the finish. Everything was organized for us so we could just relax and take it all in. The food was delicious and the kids thought so too. One of the best parts was the hot sauna waiting for us when we returned to the lodge. We will definitely do it again. I would highly recommend a trip like this for families.

What a fantastic, magical and unforgettable experience we had at Northern Edge Algonquin. We (family of 5 - kids 11, 16 and 18 - plus an aunt) booked a personalized three day canoeing and camping trip. A group of city dwellers from England looking to get out of our comfort zone and that we did! We were lucky enough to have Kieran “The Legend” Kelly as our guide who ensured we had the best time ever and really enjoyed a Canadian Wildnerness Experience. Kieran was brilliant with the kids and the adults alike, nothing was too much trouble and he taught us all so much. He made sure we always felt safe in our canoes even when a storm struck! The kids also learnt to paddle board with him which was a real highlight as they got to do it barefoot (the shoeless factor was a real highlight for us). And we have to share how kind and helpful ALL the staff are at Northern Edge and how amazing the food is!! Cannot recommend this place and the people enough. Our only regret is that we didn’t camp out for longer. We are trying to work how we can return!

My first experience of visiting Northern Edge Algonquin (or The Edge as it is fondly called) struck me as a place in which every building down to the placement of every shelf, picture and light switch had been carefully thought on and dreamed upon because this place, these buildings are in communion with the land they are built upon; relying on the sun- the solar panels for the power to heat and cook the beautiful locally sourced food and to power the running water and hot showers. It made me mindful to things like turning off unnecessary lights and having a short shower, of focussing on enjoying the Nature so close at hand and tasting meals that had so much respectful thought, labour and love put into them.
Subsequent visits to The Edge have not lessened my wonder and sense of magic of this place for many reasons; for example, I have come to understand the amount of effort and teamwork that goes into offering an experience whose foundation is an off grid-live sustainably environment. I have also experienced each time I have come, the time and the opportunity for heart conversations, not just 'head' ones.
I would recommend The Edge to anyone looking for more than a so called get away or retreat, but for those who are looking for the reminder of our soulful connections and our responsibilities to Nature and to each other.

Room Tip: The studio cabins are private, Bear's Den can accommodate more people

The Edge is the ultimate destination for tapping into the beauty of Mother Nature and her magic. The accommodations are cozy cabins in the forest, truly a million star hotel. The food alone is worth a visit as Chef Gregor will delight your taste buds with a buffet full of locally grown flavours. The facilities are gorgeous and have a very welcoming feel. You will feel the energy of the land in the walking trails, labyrinth, and gardens. The dock on Kawawaymog Lake will beckon you down to the water. There is no shortage of activities to take part in -- cleanse in the sauna, go for a swim, paddle (SUP or canoe), borrow a book from the library, enjoy a bonfire, create through arts & crafts, or enjoy stillness in the sacred meditation space. The Edge offers rejuvenation at it's finest.

Room Tip: All cabins are beautifully cozy :)

We wanted to take our kids, aged 7 and 4, into Algonquin Park, but didn’t feel safe doing with alone. My husband is no stranger to backcountry camping, but his experience is in the Tropics and he had never gone by canoe. I’d been canoe tripping in Algonquin Park before, but always with someone more experienced. We needed a guide. I researched many places, but was charmed by Northern Edge Algonquin’s website. It was a good choice. Our 4-day custom family canoe trip exceeded our expectations!

Upon arrival we met Kieran, our guide. He showed us around the absolutely lovely grounds. Northern Edge’s main facilities are phenomenal. The gardens are spectacular and the architecture (especially the stone work) takes your breath away. Both speak of hours of dedicated labor towards making a picturesque, peaceful, yet practical place.

The log cabin where we spent our first night was incredible. Rescued from demolition by Northern Edge’s chef and stonemason, it is more than 100 years old. There was a beautiful stone area in front of a woodstove that my 4 year old called his dance floor. I have never seen him dance so much! It felt luxurious to stay in such a place before heading out on a canoe trip.

Better still we got two guides for the price of one. Alissa joined us as our guide-in-training extraordinaire! Kieran and Alissa were fabulous. They took us on a trip perfectly suited to our family’s demographics and interests and they were wonderful with the kids. We spent both nights in a beautiful hemlock grove campsite and took a long loop day trip on our second day in the Park. Each meal they chopped fresh fruit and veggies and cooked up delicious food, then they washed up with boiled water from the lake. They kept us safe and comfortable, while still making us feel capable ourselves. They shared their knowledge and they taught by example: how to build a campfire, how to saw wood, how to use tree sap as a match, how to find the North Star, and much more. By the end, I felt that we could do it on our own, but it was so much nicer having someone else cook, make sure that everything was safely stowed at night, and help out with the kids. They were not only our guides and cooks, but also wonderful companions.
