Me and my husband went to this beautiful resort for March break. We got superior room and it was big enough with private swimming pool. Most important the staff were very nice and friendly.Eliu was the one who was very helpful and very friendly.I usually travel twice a year the last two year we went to Sonnesta and Le beach in Marrigot but Esmeralda is the best one.Very long nice beach called Coco beach with good food and very friendly staff.

This was our first trip to the Caribbean. We've been all over the world and are seasoned travelers, but have not really done a beach vacation. We chose Esmeralda based on their web-site and reviews. We were very pleased with our choice. Excellent service, no mis-steps at all. Anais at the front desk is a gem.
We will be back!

Room Tip: Seem to all be good, villas w/ 4 rooms each surrounding a swimming pool. It was nice and quiet. There are very sweet cats on the property.

My husband and I frequented the nude section of Coco Beach on Orient Beach, and we learned that guests staying at the Esmeralda Resort have free use of the beach chairs and umbrellas at Coco. Furthermore, they can charge food and drink to their rooms.

We were staying at a different resort, but decided to take a walk around the grounds of the Esmeralda. Noteworthy to us was the fact that the resort is laid out with a number of buildings away from each other, with each building having its own pool. The buildings seemed to have no more than four units each, thereby limiting the number of potential people at the pool.

This arrangement would make it more conducive to sunbathing nude at the pool without fear of offending a fellow guest.

There are many positive features of this resort - as related in the reports of others. However, the room rates seem to be on the high side. I've attached a picture of the rates posted in the lobby.

Nevertheless, if you - like us - are interested in sunbathing at the approved nude section of Coco Beach, and are desirous of being nude at the pool at the place where you're staying, the Esmeralda Resort is worth considering.

Ours was a return visit to St. Maarten. Our first stay was in Little Bay Beach, but we vowed to return to Orient Beach. We were also looking for a low-key, reasonably private resort that was in close proximity to Orient Beach, away from the more congested areas, less affected by daily cruise-line crowds, and within reasonable distance to various water sports and nightlife. Esmaralda Resort scores 10 in all counts. The units were simple and comfortable, with a semi-private pool (private for us as we were the only ones there at any time). Continental breakfast was delicious. Grounds were gorgeous. Coco Beach was perfect - essentially the most northern section of Orient Beach that had excellent service and adjacent restaurant. A plus was being able to use the hotel card for other beach restaurants.

Room Tip: If you want a room close to the beach, book 1 year in advance.

My wife and I spent a week at Esmeralda Resort in February. Overall we thought it was a beautiful location. It was a short walk to Orient Beach where we were able to get tables, umbrella and drinks from Coco Beach Bar. They are either owned by the same company or have a billing arrangement with the resort so that you are able to bill food and drinks to your room.

The breakfast included fresh croissants and fruit and if we wanted could order other items for an additional cost.

We liked our room it was a nice large room with a huge bed and shower. Since each building had its own pool it was a only a about 10 feet or so from our patio to the pool.

Some negatives
As mentioned by many you can here people talking very clearly in the adjacent rooms. Our room was close to the main road buy the entrance so we could hear street noise. Some umbrellas for shade around the pool so that you could stand to be out there in when the sun is out would be nice. And agree with others in that the resort could stand a little refresh all around.

Overall I think we would stay there again but would request a different room.
