We'd visited the Fortezza at Radicofani on a previous trip to Tuscany - it has changed a bit. There were lots more people there (might have been because it was a Saturday) and the grounds of the Fortezza itself had been cleared with a bar and grill now onsite.

There are great views from the fort which is perched on a hill and is visible from all quarters. You can see out towards Monte Amiata and the Val d'Orcia. It is possible to climb to the top of the tower for an even better view (and a breeze), from where you can see Lago di Bolsena to the south along with even more of the stunning views for 360 degrees. Each of the floors of the well preserved main fort has information boards about the construction and history, as well as some of the artefacts that have been found close by. There is also a story about a local Robin Hood type character called Ghino di Tacco (has a piazza named after him in the village) who did the rob from the rich give to the poor thing.

It's a nice place to wander round to admire the fort as well as the views.

A beautiful castle in an out of the way area. Definitely not on the main tourist trail but well worth the visit. Stunning views of the surrounding area from a top the tower.

Not too far from Siena is a medieval hilltop town called Radicofani offering 360 degree views from the fortress known as the Castle of Ghino di Taco. For a mere 4,00 euro, you can visit this historic site, which was first documented in the year 978. The massive structure sits at the hill's peak, which is 896 meters (2940 feet). On a clear day, you can see the Mediterranean Sea from the ramparts. During season, there is a small cafe that serves reasonably priced drinks and lunches with a million dollar view.

Historical place. Ghino di Tacco , sort of medieval italian robin hood, was living this place or close. Gorgeous sightseeing

5 Euros to get in. A few nice exhibits but what you really want to see are the views. Looking north you can see across the mountains to Tuscany and the Val-de-Elsa. Looking south you can see all the way to Aquapendente and almost to the shores of Bolsena. There are powerful winds so you take a peek and then duck down behind the battlements to take a breath and then repeat. Oh, and its lots of fun to look at the town below. There are also some tunnels in the fort and a nice bar. I've been here twice and they've been faithfully restoring it.
