We stayed at the Belgrave Arms Hotel in Helmsdale in June en route to the Orkney Islands. It is ideally situated for an overnight stop, being only about 60 miles from the ferry terminal at Scrabster. Helmsdale is a lovely little village with a picturesque harbour and a surprising number of things to do, so well worth a visit.
Although this is a relatively small hotel, it is very well run, and without exception all the staff (and the owners) were helpful and pleasant. Our room was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and had nice little touches like bottles of mineral water etc. Although there are various places to eat in the village, we chose to eat in the hotel’s restaurant which had opened that day after refurbishment. There was a good choice on the menu, the food was excellent and well priced, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The following morning, breakfast was equally as good and it gave us a good start to the day to continue on our journey. We enjoyed our very short stay at the Belgrave Arms Hotel and would certainly stay again.
