Can't really complain about the room as it was modern, well decorated and comfortable.
The only problem was the large dirty stain above the TV in the room, which could have been from a recent leak.
Breakfast was a decent buffet style effort.
Aside from that, we (party of 4 adults and 1 child) had booked in for the advertised NYE Gala Dinner, which was to be a buffet 4 course meal, followed by entertainment, a glass of champagne at midnight and more music etc.
I had called the hotel reception earlier in the day and enquired as to what time dinner would be served - NOTE: I had read the advertisement incorrectly and had presumed that we would be receiving a served/sit down dinner. Regardless, the receptionist informed me that dinner would be served at between 8pm-10pm.
We arrived into the dinner hall at approx 8.30pm and were delayed in being seated as the duty manager who was seating parties was taking a complaint from a very irate guest. After about 10 minutes waiting to be seated, we moved to find our own table. At this point the manager left a table where he'd been receiving more complaints, met us and sat us at our table - pointing to the buffet tables at the top of the room and explaining that we'd be serving ourselves.
Issues:
As we arrived at 08:40pm, the buffet tables were a bit chaotic, with some plates half or nearly empty.
All of the food, without exception was luke warm at best or cold.
There was no child's food available, and we found out after 20 mins that you'd to order that separately.
There was no potato or chips available, again needed to be ordered separately - when it did arrive, the dish of mash potato was exactly half hot and half cold (how that happened?!).
On 3 separate occasions I had to go looking for staff to find out what was going on.
There was no dedicated staff member for the buffet tables, so some guest's children made it their business to help themselves, handling a lot of the starters and desserts before kindly returning it to the buffet table.
Overall it was one of the most stressful and annoying dinners I've had in my life. A country pub would've made a better effort.
I cannot fault the staff (when I could find them) as they were very friendly and helpful. They were however dealing with dozens of complaining guests.
We heard stories during the night of the hotel comp'ing the cost of pizzas to be delivered to one table, with other tables receiving complimentary bottles of wine and promises of part refunds etc.
During the night (2am - 9am) there was a huge amount of noice on our floor, with drunken guests knocking on random doors (including ours on a couple of occasions). I don't know what Hotel Mgt could have done about this considering the night that it was, but it made the stay that bit more uncomfortable.
The next morning, I had a short chat with the duty manager and we were compensated to a certain extent. I wasn't going to argue more as I was exhausted, and to be fair felt bad for the man.
Suffice to say that had we known what was awaiting us with this event, we would not have chosen this hotel. We would have also advised anyone who would listen not to chose this hotel either. It may well be a nice place for the other 364 days of the year, but avoid on the 31st Dec.
