The views from the hotel are wonderful and very relaxing, in my opinion the best thing about it. The rooms are clean with plenty of space.

The place is very quiet and there are few houses but no restaurants nor shops around and of course you can't and shouldn't get there without a car. The breakfast is expensive (7.70euros) but tasty.

The staff is very helpful specially Immanol. The wifi was a bit annoying because we had to log in every hour or so.

Very recommended if you want to relax and enjoy the basque landscape.

Stayed: September 2016
Thank Ami G

Beautiful views, surrounded by nature, fun spa concept. I would definitely return with a partner (romantic visit, not for kids or friends) Cons... You need a car to move around (no public transport), unfriendly lady at reception, old and ugly bedrooms.

The best views in the Basque Country over the Urdaibai Biosphere reserve, great hosts that go out of their way to help you, very nice breakfast and beautiful garden to relax and enjoy the views. Rooms are big enough and very silent. They also offer a spa and massage service at the basement, for an extra relax. Beñat, the owner, is very talkative and informative and will help you in any possible way.

Room Tip: The front ones have spectacular views

the hotel, actually I would call it a pension, is all about its view to the atlantic ocean. And this is really brilliant !!
Just to be aware of - the rooms are pretty basic, nothing special, also no fridge and minibar. But all clean and tidy. There is no bar in the hotel but at the very friendly receptionist you can get drinks and sandwiches. Breakfast is a bit small and actually lacks choice.
What is really great is the view from the hotel and the garden straight down on the ocean and on the vilages there. Also a nice walk behind the hotel into the mountains leads into really rural quiet basque villages ...superb !
You need a car when there ! There is a brillinat small beach there, it was not crowded even in august, but you need to drive !
In summary a great place to enjoy the surroundings, whilst the hotel itself is limited. Some of the staff very friendly (the blond receptionist), others less. Highly recommended !

Room Tip: ask for a sea view when booking

I stayed at the Gametxo with a friend for two nights in a twin-room without breakfast in early July. The hotel receptionist pretty much told us to not bother with the breakfast as it was an extra €10 or so and in their words, “it’s not worth the money”. Tip – buy some grocery beforehand if you’re staying for a few days. I must admit that I didn’t really investigate too closely but if you choose to stay for three nights or more, you get a certain discount.

The Gametxo is perched up on the hill overlooking the famous Laida and Laga windsurfing bays below and naturally, you should only bother with this hotel if you have a car – it’s nearly a 30-minute drive to the nearest motorway though there’s plenty of parking space available. The hotel’s pleasant and clean, staff helpful, there’s free wi-fi, TV and the shower’s excellent. There are plenty of plugs and sockets to charge the various electronics and lots of room for baggage. No fridge, however, in my room. My only problem is that there’s no air-con which means the windows had to be opened, which meant mosquitoes.

Pleasant hotel – and very popular. It was pretty much full when we stayed so book ahead.

Room Tip: Bring insect repellent!
