The location of this hostel is just ideal: by the lake, in a quiet area. We stayed in the historical building and found it very romantic and full of charm, although quite noisy (there were many families with small children as we were there). We took the dinner (not included in the price, but quite cheap) and didn't regret it, as it was a full meal and delicious! For a small fee we were able to park our car without a problem.

We booked rooms on the lakefront which were hostel rooms that sleep 3 each. The rooms were small and opened right onto the lawn at the lake (CHF 40 per person per night). The linen were provided but we had to make the beds ourselves. We decided to upgrade to the double rooms which are well worth the upgrade (CHF 56 per person per night). Fortunately there were 3 doubles available which all had beautiful lake views. As the weather was rainy it was a good choice as the hostel rooms meant having to walk outdoors to get to the bathrooms/toilets.
The double rooms were very pleasant and except for the children's double room, were spacious. The bathroom and toilet were on the 2nd floor. These rooms were all in an old house full of character. The floorboards creaked especially the staircase. Shared bathroom was modern with good hot shower.
Kitchen had very good and adequate crockery, cutlery and glass/cups etc

The best thing about the hostel was the direct lakefront location. There's a trampoline, paddleboards and hammock at the lakefront. The paddleboards & life vests are complimentary.

2 things to note: (1) Reception hours are limited. We arrived in between opening hours but were welcomed by a staff member to make ourselves at home in the public areas. (2) very steep slope from the hostel car park to the hostel. We were worried our 82 year old grandmother may not be able to manage but she was in good physical condition.

All in all a lovely experience. The staff were friendly and the included breakfast was a bonus. Simple spread of cold cuts, cheese, variety of fruit yoghurt, bread, cereal, coffee & tea.
Book the double rooms, well worth the extra money spent!

Many thanks for your detailed and honest criticism.
Also we were very glad to have a family as a guest which well knew how to orientate itself and appreciating the foreign surroundings with all circumstances.
This is necessary, for the rest, also on such a big area.
Because we know of course around the big rise, we offer after pre registration suffer or older people the transport in our car.
We hope you to be allowed to welcome directly again as a guest and wish you all the best

This is a very special place right on Lake Lucerne which is affordable for families. You can swim, kayak, hike or take the boat to beautiful Lucerne.
From the first communication everything was nearly flawless. We arrived late at night and they were there to greet us. The rooms are like summer camp rooms with a sink, but that was fine because they were very clean and very comfortable and close to the bathroom.
We woke in the morning to an absolutely amazing view. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We spent 3 nights. We did have an issue trying to do laundry as the drier didnt really work, but we were able to hang the laundry outside.
We had to switch rooms for our last night and that went well; we packed up our stuff before we went out for the day and the staff moved our baggage into the new room for us.
We enjoyed the dinner one night, home cooked by the amazing chef on staff.

If you plan to do a lot of outdoor activities like hiking in the nearby mountains or using the transportation system, I would recommend purchasing the Swiss Pass. We had a Eurail pass but we had to purchase the Swiss pass also to enjoy all the nearby activities such as going to the top of Mt. Rigi and Mt. Pilatus (i recommend both, but wld give the edge to Rigi).
Just a fanatasic place...the view, the staff, the amenities and all the families that were there.
What an inexpensive way to spend time in paradise.

We stayed here for two nights to see the Lake area on our way south but wish it had been longer. We meant to get there late afternoon but because of some train mishaps meant it was dark and looking like it would be after latest check in time (10pm) before we could get there. We emailed them letting them know this, asking if it would be a problem, and they emailed back straight away with directions for the quickest ways to get there, which bus to get and at what time, and that they would even come and collect us from Brunnen station (the closest station) if we got stuck. After a long day of travelling this was very reassuring. When we finally made it we found Dani had waited for us to show us to our room which was right on the lake which was very kind. It was clean, smelt of fresh pine furniture and had a mirror and sink with drinking water. It faced the lake so you could see it from sitting in bed. Breakfast buffet was included and had a great choice. We also opted for the four course meal for only 18 francs because travelling on foot was hard to get anywhere, but this was great value for money. They have kayaks, boards, access to the lake, volley ball, everything to keep you entertained. It was in a beautiful location with friendly and helpful staff and i wish we could have stayed for longer!

Just returned from a two night stay with our 4 and 2 year olds. They had a fab time on the trampoline, in the sandpit, in the paddling pool, on the slide and even swam in the lake. It's location is close to Brunnen, Vitznau and Weggis by bus to explore the mountains and also take a lake boat journey. The views are stunning, lakeside with mountains. The hostel had paddle boards and canoes for hire. People working there very helpful and friendly. It is clean and room we had had good solid furniture and space. Food was hearty/robust. Thanks!
