Beynac is a lovely town, situated perfectly in the midst of the Dordogne Region. Frederique's Maison is spectacular in many ways. It is carefully and lovingly designed, very well appointed and creates a gracious and comfortable atmosphere. The view of the town, river and Chateau de Beynac from her lovely patio/garden is stunning as are the sounds of the birds and the bells from the church above. Our only regret was that we had to leave after 11 days but look forward to a return.
Be prepared for a short but steep climb from the town to this haven. Believe me it is well worth it. We are two seniors and managed quite well. While we were there, there was a road closure which prevented us from driving close to the maison, so we walked a bit more than others might have. Village parking is available.(Check if road D703 has re-opened if you are arriving soon)
A few tips from our 11 day stay...Bring rubber soled shoes. The stone path up and down to the village can be slippery when it rains. I used a foldable walking stick in the rain as an assist. Also, we used our empty wheeled luggage as grocery trolleys when shopping for food..it helped in hauling the groceries up the hill.
The house is fantastic and the views from the terrace are breath-taking. The house had everything we needed, very well appointed. Wonderful little town, great base for exploring the Dordogne and good eating options in town.
Fabulous stone house, centuries old and beautifully restored, with a grand terrace and garden overlooking the Dordogne River and the town of Beynac. A short, steep walk leads to the Beynac castle, a treasure that gives a vivid look at France in the period of the Hundred Years War. Sitting out on the terrace watching the sun set over this landscape was magical. Bells in the Church near the castle above ring on the hour (except late at night), for us adding more charm to our visit. Splendid place to stay!
Frederique's stone cottage is set in the most beautiful garden location high above the river in the steep paths beneath the castle at Beynac et Cazenac in the beautiful Dordogne region of France. The views from the garden and the house are remarkable and really, photos don't do it justice.. The house itself has been beautifuly renovated with modern appliances etc but still retains its medieval charm . The owner is excellent to communicate with and there are nearby restaurants in the ancient streets nearby . An experience not to be missed. It is highly reccommended.
Superb accomodation, with splendid terrace and prime view on the Dordogne. Moreover, very nice south/west orientation with evening sun.
