“Fantastic informally laid out zoo”

Zoo Bassin d'Arcachon
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 26, 2017 via mobile

A quite large zoo, very rural cages and fenced areas, large and smaller animals. A very nice walk takes you all over, with paths winding around the enclosures, over board walks, winding through trees. Not sophisticated, no food, not commercialised, but an extremely nice zoo.

Visited with 2 girls (4 and 6) who loved every minute of it. There is enough occupy for a few hours. Close proximity is allowed with some animals, notably feeding giraffes and ring tailed lemurs! Recommend buying popcorn at the entrance for feeding, just don't use it all on the ducks at the entrance!

We visited the zoo and after a two hour trip were shocked by how expensive it was to get in. We knew there were lots of different animals but first needed a toilet trip with the young children. The toilets are absolutely disgusting, very smelly, dirty, so bad the girls couldn't go and as adults we found it difficult to hold our noses for long enough. So disappointing especially given the price!!

There are a vast variety of animals but you come away feeling rather sorry for them all. The enclosures need to be made bigger with more to do in them for the animals. They are dirty and smelly and there is a rather sad feeling about the place. The zoo is not well maintained or well staffed. Nothing written in English so we had no idea what some of the animal were. Deeply regret going and felt ripped off.

The zoo is situated 15km from Arcachon town. You can either drive or bike here. This is one of the most exclusive zoo I've been which has white lions & white tigers! There are elephants, raccoons, orangutans, ostriches, many varieties of monkeys, hippopotamus, zebras, giraffes, tapir, kangaroos, otters, parrots, red Pandas, bears, buffaloes, cats etc etc. A white monkey is highly qualified to be an acrobat which entertained all visitors. You cannot miss him! The animals seemed to enjoy themselves even though they are under captivity. They got lot of space, well kept and nicely fed. Kids will love it. You can enjoy your walk around the whole zoo. Just follow the arrows It costs 19,5 euros per adult, kids under 12 years have discount. Dress yourself with a hat and bring some water if it is a sunny day. It has a restaurant serves sandwich / paninis, ice creams and drinks. Lovely French cashier girl speaks English fluently!

A medium size zoo with clear focus on big cats with some unique animals : white tigers, yellow lions,..Also possibility to see how animals are getting food.Well organized walk around the zoo. Some spaces are so big that you may not see the animals, other are rather small but you perceive a commitment to continiously upgrade installations.Good value for entry price (2 kids = 1 adult + 45 Euro).
