The castle is very impressive, well appointed, modern facilities in a fantastic location. There's very little in the town. One very hospitable bar with great tapas and a couple of restaurants that open after 8.30pm. The art work and acoustics in the church are amazing.

Once you are inside the hotel room, you could be in any hotel - other than the tiny slit-like windows, there's nothing special about the (rather small) rooms themselves.

A better idea would be to stay elsewhere in the village and then come to the castle for a drink in the bar. You can see all the same common areas of the castle if you come for a drink, and with the money you save, you could even buy dinner in the castle dining room (about €50 a person without alcohol).

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere in the village, come to the castle for a drink instead.

We stayed as part of a motorbike tour so only one night and with 15 of us took every room in the hotel - the rooms are small but well equipped and all have spectacuar views However many have very small slit or tiny square windows ( due to its castle origins obviously) but this means that you only really get to appreciate the views if you are peering out from right next to the glass ( which was filthy which didnt help ) obviously cleaning the windows on the outside in this building must be an uber challenge but it IMO needs to be addressed. There are a few really sexy rooms that other luckily ended up in that were fantastic - in the main tower with access to the roof these are definitely the ones to ask for as the highest ramparts are only accessible though these rooms so if you arent staying in one you are unlikely to be able to get up there.
Bar is large and and the courtyard seating area is beautiful.
The dining room is more a banqueting hall and the food and service was excellent other than our group there was only two other couples in the place though so atmosphere would be a problem unless you are happy having a very quiet night.
I would love to take my wife here because it is so spectacular but would only stay one night as once youve seen the building there really isnt much else to do either in the hotel or immediate vicinity

Room Tip: Ask for one of the "special rooms" in the main tower with direct private access tomthe ram...

This Parador was recommended to us and we were told how lucky we were to secure a room! I absolutely agree but the village (not a town) is very quiet. This suited us down to the ground! My wife is a coeliac and needs to eat a gluten free diet. This is never a problem for any of the Paradors and this is why we use them so much. Exceptional staff and a fabulous dining room mad our stay very special.

This is a small historic parador which an amazing situation. The castle has an interior courtyard for drinks and dinner is in a sumptuous hall. The food was not bad for a parador - starters were sausage meats or honeyed rice followed by suckling pig or veal followed by chocolate brownie - all nicely presented. Our room was 108 which had a view over the towards the smaller castle across the river. This is a small parador with not many rooms and all the better for that.

We LOVE this Paradore and as it is only juts over two hours away from our location when in Soain we have been there for lunch on several occasions. If any one asked where to start their first aradore experience we would not hesitate to suggest this one. The combination of the historic and modern facilites gives a good indication of what the Paradore group can offer. It was our first visit here that encouraged us to join as Amigos! On our recent visit the restaurant was very busy but we still felt that the two members of the waiting staff on duty that night were always attentive and never gave any indication of how busy they were and ensured that each resident was important and felt like a visiting friend.VERY PROFESSIONAL AND NEVER INTRUSTIVE, ALWAYS ON HAND TO ATTEND TO ANY REQUEST OR QUESTION ETC. I would also like to mention that when we checked in during the late afternoon the manageress was extremely welcoming with her also carrying one of our cases to our room. A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERY ONE ON DUTY DURING OUR STAY.

The actual physical facility is extremely unique. The location is remote and very beautiful. The adjoining village is quaint, and welcoming. The room was comfortable. Most of the staff we interacted with were professionally pleasant.

However the place had a certain "remoteness" to it - I don't mean physically, but attitudinally. The people were generally pleasant but not "warm" or welcoming, just sort of efficient. For what it is, for the price paid, it fell below my expectations. It's the sort of place one goes to for a special occasion (as it was for me), and I would have thought that the Parador would have recognised this and taken it into account.

My view is influenced by our arrival experience. When we arrived there was no-one in sight. No bell or anything similar in reception. No way of summonsing anyone. My wife asked the man in the bar to see if he could locate someone. That didn't seem to have any effect. I went back some 5 minutes later and he simply ignored me. When the young woman behind the counter did turn up - at least 15 minutes after we had arrived and had simply stood around - there was not a word of apology or acknowledgement. She was/had been dealing with another guest and she barely acknowledged my presence. We received no overview of the hotel - no instructions re meals, etc. There were probably no more than 5 words spoken. I have travelled a lot, and visited hotels across the whole quality spectrum, and I have to say that this was the worst arrival experience ever. Ever.

We were visiting this particular hotel becasue it was my 65th birthday; on our second day there. I did not expect any fuss to be made, but it would be easy for the reception staff to at least notice this from my passport details (I watched her key my date of birth into the computer). As a comparison, when we checked in to the next hotel, the young man at the reception said "I know I'm a day late, but happy birthday yesterday" (same thing; nothing said by me, he just noticed that from my passport). Simple, easy, and a very nice personal touch. It was that personal touch which was, for me, missing at the Parador Alarcon.
