Minimalistic (which is ok) but felt motel-ish in a way with huge great room with kitchen shared by others. We had thought the views would be great, even if distant, but way too far away. The design is just a bit strange - not sure why they didn't build the house closer to the edge to maximize views. The owners live in the rear of the place (we only met them on check-out). Breakfast was pretty good. Room was small but modern & clean. I'd stay at Kimi Ora Eco Resort instead, closer to town and the beach and activities too.

Room Tip: There are 3 over a parking lot and 3 with a distant view. Deck of 1st room on left is next to parkin...

We spent a couple of nights at the Split Apple Lodge and are still thrilled by everything. The lodge is beautifully situated. From the large guest terrace one has wonderful views
to the mountains and the sea. The sunrise over the sea is spectacular!
The terrace is equipped with extremely comfortable lounge furnitures where you can stay long time. The same kind of lounge furnitures are located on the terraces of the rooms with sea view.
Everything is in very high quality, the rooms are large, the bed is extremely comfortable! Our bathroom had a spacious shower and was stocked with towels and also with soap, shower and hair care.

Very cozy is also the lounge! The owners, Franziska and Daniel have told us that they have renewed almost everything after the takeover of the lodge last year.
So there is a large, very comfortable seating landscape and individual matching lounge chairs.
The huge dining table is in the morning for breakfast very nicely covered. But you can dine there also in the evening with your own food you bought on your trip. There is a large fridge you can put your personal dining and drinking.
The breakfast is wonderful. There were boiled eggs of their own chickens, very delicious bread - self-baked from Franziska (which was a relief compared to the usual toast breads!). Every morning there was fresh fruit salad, natural yoghurt, honey, delicious jams and lots of cereals and nuts, so we had a rich and satisfying breakfast.

The hosts are very helpful in booking tours to the park or reservations in the restaurant.

All in all, we can highly recommend this lodge, and we would love to come back if we will be back in New Zealand.

Room Tip: I think all rooms have the same perfect furnishing! The sea-view and the mountain-view - both are sp...

What a beautiful place to spend 2 nights of your holiday, absolutely amazing views. The lodge itself is wonderful. Clean, tidy, spacious & very comfortable. The owners are very helpful & accommodating. They will even make you up a pack lunch if you are out for the day on a hike, sort out restaurant bookings, taxis etc. It seems nothing was too much trouble. This place is a little gem. Would stay again without hesitation.

I am very reluctant to review hidden gems of super high quality for fear they will be full when I next return. But here goes. Split Apple Lodge is one of those WOW places in the world. When you reach the Lodge you will not believe the views. Stunning.
The owners, Fran and Daniel are so nice, very welcoming and very helpful. This is a not a posh hotel, it isn't meant to be. It is a 6 bed modern lodge with a communal dining area for breakfast and a lounge. For dinner they will book you a table at Hooked, a great restaurant at the bottom of the hill in Marahau, overlooking the gorgeous bay.
Take your own booze as currently they dont have a licence.
This would be the perfect place to stay after walking the Abel Tasman Track. It is equally an amazing place to stay, to chill out and take in the views. It is fabulous. Don't miss it.

This is a small lodge that feels more like a B&B. Its a bit secluded - halfway between Kaiteriteri and Marahau on a hill that has some ocean views. The lodge appears to be pretty new - the owners were adding artwork and amenities during our visit. While we enjoyed the quiet of the lodge, we were a bit disappointed with the lack of amenities. The bathroom is small with virtually no counter space. There is a Wi-Fi connection but no TV, radio or clock in the room (Room 4). We were also a little disappointed that breakfast is a limited selection of fresh-baked bread, cereals, soft-boiled eggs and some fruit (no meats). Our room faced the mountains; we recommend asking for an ocean view when you book. The hosts are very warm and welcoming and will try to make your stay relaxing.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the ocean side for best views
