My wife and I have been desperate for a break from the stress of modern day living so we booked a couple's spa treatment session. I rang the day before to confirm times of the couple's session, took the name of the receptionist I spoke to and looked forward to our stay.

On the day of arrival, it turns out we had been told the wrong time of our treatment. We were then put down as a "no show". The parsonage provided us a complementary afternoon tea. But it wasn't great quality. No butter with the scones or cream. This was supposed to be cream tea too.

The ladies providing the alternative therapy the following day were sweet but lacked basic expectations. E.g. introducing themselves a few smiles etc. Just not the most welcoming.

Fat Abbott was good. But in short not a great experience. There was a lack of communication between the hotel and spa and this made it a poor experience for us. We also saw/overheard others experiencing similar issues. Wrong types of therapy etc.

Strange experience , staff not massively friendly or attentive , rooms average . However in the bathroom was a used wet towel with all yellow marks folded nearly as part of our towel allowance !! Not impressed . Other than that issue cleanliness was fine .
Hallways were left covered in housekeeping and unsightly all day and night .
Stairwell was pitch black had to use torch . And main door in unattended annex building were rooms are ,was always kept unlocked so not very secure .
Restaurant closed so had to use pub next door .
Think few issues need to be addressed , but overall spa facilities were good . And bedroom was fine.
Breakfast was quite nice . But again staff not very attentive to refill etc.

Just returned from a 2 day break at The Parsonage Hotel and Spa. Our room was in the newer part of the hotel and was spacious, warm and comfortable. Tea and coffee as well as toiletries supplied. We are in the Fat Abbott gastro pub next door and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. We also had a cream tea which was very nice and comprised of a warm scone with ceam and jam and petit fours, tea or coffee. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Staff in the Fat Abbott were great too. We aso vusited the spa but only for the pool, sauna etc. We took the service bus into York and the bus stopped right outside the hotel. A realky great servuce abd obky 23 minutes into York. I will certainly be visiting again and highly recommend.

Stopped here for one night on way home to south coast (from the Sunderland area) and it is a pleasant hotel. Nice grounds and good looking buildings

Plenty of on-site parking too. Friendly reception and the breakfast team very polite

We stayed in the ‘cottage’ away from the main building which was ok at best - too close to car park and a thoroughfare to be truly quiet and restful - and the room was alright if a little dated. Spacious enough though and the bed comfortable

The shower in the bathroom was something else! Never had a more powerful shower anywhere ever. It was like a loose fire hose and required a bit of control to stop it soaking the entire room - but can’t complain about the power of the water! Wakes you up for sure

A wedding was being held the same day/night but it didn’t disturb unduly

I’d stay again so that’s always a good sign. Recommended

We took a party of 40 for the weekend, arriving Friday afternoon - just beating the snow, and left at Sunday lunch in the snow.
There was an smart casual dress event on the Friday night and a black tie dinner with entertainment on the Saturday night.
The food on both nights was very good being hot where appropriate (a particular fad with me) It was well, and correctly served by a cheerful and attentive staff.
The breakfast were buffet style with the usual good choices - again hot plates.
We were in the principal bedroom with fourposter et al and it was comfortable and well appointed. A few of the guests thought that the service of the rooms left a little to be desired, but we were happy.
There is a superb gym on site together with a great pol and steam and sauna facilities all available to over 18s only. There are of course the usual beauty treatments - but I am beyond repair.

Room Tip: We were above reception and never heard a squeak.
