Went into North Wales for a quick visit. Ended up in Denbigh. Found the Glass Onion which was hidden away next to the Council Offices. We just wanted a toasted sandwich. This is a small place but with outside seating half a dozen tables. The staff were very welcoming. I had a baked potato and cheese and my hubby a toasted bacon and brie sandwich. Both came with salad and crisps and were up to standard.
Enjoyed sitting in the sun with a nice lunch. Would recommend it. The only downside was after I had a clean plate I noticed the China plate was cracked and so was my cup. I should have mentioned it but the owner was so nice I didn't want to offend

Staying in the area, was recommended to come here. Such a friendly lady who runs the place. She had broken her elbow at our time of visiting, her assistant hadn't arrived either but was still cheerful and singing along to the radio! We had coffee and a piece of fruit loaf. It arrived with a little fresh strawberry beautifully decorated on the side which I thought was a nice touch. It is obviously popular with locals and many were enjoy a breakfast. The bacon butty looked tempting!

The Glass Onion is one of Denbigh's character cafe's ... situated at the rear of the Main Street (next to the Town Hall)
It is run by Sue (another Denbigh character) and she does lovely home made soups etc. No chips or potatoes are ever on the menu, its more healthy food, though she does a great all day Welsh breakfast (well nearly all day) either bacon or veggie. Not much room though, so make sure you get there early for lunch.

Our visit to the Glass onion café was a real treat, the lady owner recommended the dishes we had and they were superb, a chicken/bacon and welsh cheese salad served in a large bowl and very filling, I gave that 11 out of 10 !! and a Quiche Lorraine with buttered new potatoes and salad, again a large portion size and excellent quality home cooked food. This lady only uses fresh produce and cooks all her own hams etc, potatoes are oven baked not microwaved and cakes freshly baked, terrific. Service is friendly and efficient and the prices very reasonable, all in all one not to miss.
