We took the Snow Monkey train from Nagano around noon and arrived at Yadanaka station a little after one; with the shuttle service we got to the hotel in no time. The check in time was 3pm, but we decided to get to the hotel early to leave our luggage. The hotel provided shuttle service to the Snow Monkey Park before check in, at 1.30pm (another option was morning shuttle). The hotel also sent the shutle to pick us up at 4pm (very punctual)- plenty of time to enjoy the snow monkeys.

After checked in we enjoyed the public onsen which has both indoor and outdoor bath. Dinner was a Keiseki set which we enjoyed very much. After dinner we enjoyed the traditional show of Taiko drum, Samisen, and a Lion dance - all performed by one artist. This was a Saturday night, we're not sure if there were performance only on certain nights.

The beds were actually futons, but they were comfortable and we managed a good night sleep.

For breakfast we chose Japanese style breakfast, which as some of the reviewer mentioned, some items may be a little challenging for non Japanese. Opt for western breakfast if you are not adventurous with your food.

The only thing that I could find fault was the bathtub in our room were a bit old. However, the room and the bathroom were clean. Overall we had a very good experience with the staff and their services, they spoke English pretty well and were very helpful.

We stayed here for five nights as part of a guided ski trip. The ryokan is well located: only a 3 minute drive from Yudanaka station (to/from which the ryokan offers a free shuttle service), a 20 minute drive to the amazing Shiga Kogen ski area and a 10 minute drive to the snow monkey park.

We stayed in a traditional tatami room which was as comfortable as one of those rooms can be! The staff were very polite, spoke good English and helped us and others get their luggage forwarded to our next place.

The ryokan has delightful onsen which you can use pretty much whenever you want apart from 30 minutes around midnight when they clean the onsen and swap over the men's and women's sides so you can try them both out over the course of your stay. The onsen are well maintained, well equipped and truly relaxing. There is also a rooftop onsen (mixed) you can book for a small fee.

The most outstanding thing about the ryokan is its food. We were spoilt with a kaiseki style meal every evening which was different practically every day we were there. The food is authentic, seasonal and delicious! The breakfast is also excellent- we opted for the Japanese breakfast for the whole of our stay while there is also a western breakfast which also looked very good.

Overall highly recommended! And if you fancy a walk, the ryokan is a short walk to a fascinating local supermarket called America Drug- a haven for Japanese snacks and much much more!

We spent one night a the Ryokan Biyunoyado as part of our organised tour and I can honestly say it was a brilliant stay. The rooms were immaculate - clean and quite large. And while we had dinner, the futons were laid out for us ready to get into. The food was exceptional and plentiful - with presentation a 10/10. The food was wide and varied, and I would recommend that you try and eat all that they provide, as it is beautiful. The staff were incredibly welcoming and made each of us feel like it was our "home". Whether you visit Japan for skiing or just to see the countryside, this is one Ryokan I would highly recommend. It was a brilliant stay and I would definitely stay again.

Having skied in Niseko for the past several years (paying Niseko prices!), we decided to try Nagano for a change. So glad we did! The skiing at Shiga Kogen was amazing and the Ryokan Biyu was the perfect place to base our families. The setup of the ryokan allows family groups to be as large or small as they want. The rooms are a bit cozy for hanging out, but the common areas more than make up for it with a cute coffee/drinks bar, games tables, sofas and even a piano. Wifi/phone reception was excellent and the staff were so nice. If you want to take a ski holiday together with a couple of families, this is the place to stay.
