Asahidake Onsen Hotel Bear Monte
Reviewed 3 January 2018

Great hotel in Asahidake, close to the lift. Great breakfast and dinner very nice onsen, and helpful staff. Hotel rooms are not too big, but did not spend too much time in them, except sleeping. The onsen is very nice as well!

I was a bit suspicious when making a reservation here at first, but it was above our expectation. We drove from the airport and the arrival was in the evening. Two meals included in the reservation, so it felt like a Ryokan with western setting. We were so glad to have a comfy room with two beds and futons, we can enjoy the tatami. A really large meal with local ingredients. WE HAD FULL and the liquor price was affordable! So please make a reservation with half-board, especially you are an epicure with large reservoir. The onsen (spa) is well equipped and neatly managed. The atmosphere was perfect around the hotel, stars, waterfalls, mists.
The ropeway is very close to the hotel that we could save the time and have pleasant hiking during the morning. Asahidake was beautiful! Will be again once we master mountain ski, Winter time Bear Monte would be more exciting I guess.
Hospitality of the staffs was as always, in the rural Hokkaido. Speaking or understanding minimal Japanese is better, so they can understand you easily. (私の日本語が下手だ, しかし,こんなものでもないより増ましだ)

Room Tip: If you are with kids, 2nd floor is convenient 'cause the spa is at the end of the corridor.

Spend one night in the hotel to experience the early snowy climate in Hokaido on 23rd Oct. Be prepared to check in only when its 3pm and none a second too early. The room are a bit old yet it is clean and the bed comfortable

The hotel is the nearest to the bus station and the ropeway cable car to go up mt asahidaki.

Do bring along some extra tidbits to carry you through the night since no shop around. i suggest take the room plus dinner and breakfast to be included and rid yourself of the futility of finding food outside.

Overall a nice place to enjoy some peace and do a little hiking up the mountain and ahhh the onsen is open through out the night until morning. You can bath both indoor and outdoor. Price included in the room charges.

Without a doubt, you cannot get much closer to the gondola station for a ride up to Sugatami Station. Despite the convenience, I was not expecting a lot at the Hotel Bearmonte besides a decent bed and lots of food at the buffet after a long hike.

My first surprise was the room which was a bit more specious then I was expecting. The next surprise was the quality of food at the buffet. Certainly not the quality you would get at a small ryokan but better then other buffet style hotels I have stayed at in Japan. Finally the onsen was quite nice.

Everything else was fairly average but the three surprises put them above par.

The hotel is handy to the Asahidake Ropeway. There us nothing else in the immediate vicinity. The room was quite spacious by Japanese standards. The bathroom was fine too. Wifi didnt work well. Dinner and breakfast were excellent . Good quality and good variety. Alas the restaurant has a cafeteria feel to it. The onsen is ok but i think its not thermal water just normal water. A bit of a disappointment. Overall too expensive for whats offered.

It's my first time in a ski lodge but I was very satisfied with this hotel. Everything was clean. Rooms were large. We got the loft. It had an onsen but best it was a 3 minute walk from the ropeway.

Buffet was ok. Steak was served on both nights. The orange ice cream is to die for.

Staff was efficient and helpful, from the waiters to the front desk.

My only comment is the ambiance. Lighting outside can be added to show the beauty of the evening forest.

I would definitely recommend this place again.

The location is just off Mt Asahidake ropeway/bus stop which is great for those who take public transport from Asahikawa. There are 4 round trips a day from Asahikawa JR station/ Bus stop and the last one is around 2pm.

Rooms are slightly old and dated and air conditioning could be much better.

Half board of breakfast and dinner provided had a good selection and reasonable quality.

Onsen onsite was part of the package and fabulous. Would recommend the hotel to friends.
