Very quiet and felt out of the world. Complete drastic change from my previous stay at hoshino tomamu which was full of ppl.
Lake kanayama was frozen and white with snow.

The drive in along kanayama lake is pretty quiet.

Must bring along food for dinner n breakfast.
Kids had so much fun playing outside lodge

We were there first week of February, snow white all over, lake was frozen. But the surrounding was so beautiful, pine forrest at the back and frozen lake in the distance. we put on the snow shoe (free for guests) and walked to the lake , not so easy but an experience we wont forget...

The log hotel is beautiful, our room has balcony , sitting area with bathroom on the ground level then 2 twin beds up the stairs, all made of logs. the corridors into the rooms was also great for photos.

our package included french dinner and japanese breakfast, both were delicious though we'd have liked a bigger portion! Price is very reasonable too..all that foe under 20,000 JPY. We love to come back in spring or summer to see the lake and the surrounding forrest!

Not sure if they have double beds in other rooms, would be nice if we had one, such cold weather & the hotel is so romantic yet we had to sleep in diff beds!

The only downside is there is no onsen for such large establishment, they did hand out free tickets to go to a nearby public bath house (about 2 mins by car) , wouldnt recommend it, not exactly clean, I'd rather shower in the room;s small bathroom!

My parents and son visited Log Hotel Larch in early June. I originally booked a cabin but the hotel staff located us in the main building which is near the restaurant. Since it was raining, the arrangement was fine with us as we are directly connected to the restaurant and won't get wet.

The room had 3 big super single beds upstairs and there is heater. Only complaint was the converted single sofa bed I slept on downstairs wasn't comfortable at all.

Our room rate included French dinner and breakfast and the French cuisine was excellent!!!!!! Love the ambience in the restaurant and the tranquil misty greenery surroundings. Really wonderful unique hotel, hope I have a chance to stay there again next time!

Log Hotel Larch has a main hotel cum reception and several log cabins located higher part of the hotel grounds. The main reception lobby overlooks the lake - very picturesque view.

In drenching rain, we drove carefully to our cabin. We were two families travelling together and so we took one cabin each. For my wife and me, we were quite astonished by the size of the cabin that was meant for 5 people - 5 beds, 5 sets of almost all kitchen utensils - spoons, forks, cups, plates. The bedroom (with 5 beds) and bathroom were on lower ground. Living room was huge and it opened up to a porch for star gazers. Kitchen was well equipped - including a large hot plate for BBQ. Loved the large wash basin of the kitchen as it makes washing up so easy.

Anyway, dinner was for 6. With the hot plate, we had fried noodles with plenty of seafood ingredients, and home-made okkonomiyaki. (the only negative thing is that the power supply cannot support many cooking devices at the same time). It was a lovely hot meal on a cold evening. Adding the Asahi beer as a night cap, the evening ended with sound sleeping. Very blissful indeed.

Room Tip: the cabin has a cheaper rate than the hotel room

We stayed here twice. The first time in Oct 2013 because the area was hit by an early snowstorm and our car was stuck nearby. The staff took us in despite the whole area was out of electricity (no heat). The staff was extra helpful and came up with hot food to serve us. We were thankful and decided that we had to come back to stay here again.

We visited again in May 2015 and the weather was warm and the place was pleasant. It has a try log cabin feel and rooms are rustic but adequate. Meals served at the dining room were very good indeed. All that for a reasonable price!

Room Tip: All rooms in the main building have balconies and face out to the forest/lake.
