We had two clean and comfortable interconnecting rooms for my family of four (two teenagers) which was perfect. Osamu and his family were welcoming and generous, and assisted us in getting a refund for a one day tour we had booked that we had to change. They also recommended a great ski hire place, Spicey Rentals, as well as the best places to ski for the conditions. The free shuttle bus was minutes away and the best restaurants in Echoland only a 10 minute walk. We also had a beautiful five course meal cooked by Osamu's wife. The lounge area was a great place to relax and there were a few arguments over who was next to use the amazing massage chair!!! If we ski in Japan again we would love to stay here. Highly recommended.

2 nights at Skala for snowboarding trip was made all the better by staying here. Amazing service, so polite and thoughtful. 15 min walk through the woods for Happy One lifts and only 20 min bus ride to Happo47/Goryu which is free and leaves from the front door. Enjoyed sipping beers bought from the vending machine and listening to local trio on the piano, trumpet and drums in the lounge by the fire as we planned the next days' ride. Only 15 mins walk from Echo Land with great bars and restaurants. Took the recommendation for restaurant and loved it. Cannot rate this place high enough. We will return.

We stay in Grove Inn Skala just this Dec for 2 nights. The inn was nice and cozy, the owners are simply fantastic and service was impeccable. We had two lovely dinners cooked by the lady boss and her creme brûlée was out of this world! The owners offered to drive us to many places and their location is about 10 mins walk through the woods from the jumping station used in a Winter Olympics. They are surrounded by the magnificent views of the mountains. We really couldn't ask for more.

I recently climbed Mt.Shirouma (2933m). First I thought to stay at a mountain hut at the foot of the mountain to start early in the morning. But I checked carefully near-by hotels and found this one. This is a very beautiful house and 6 course dinner was superb. Next morning they gave me a ride to the departure point Sarukura. It took 40 minutes. This was very generous because it cost 3800 yen by taxi or 1000 yen by bus. Though this package does not include breakfast, they stopped at a convenience store to let me get some food. This way I could avoid to sleep at a crowded hut and had a gourmet dinner instead of mediocre meal of a mountain hut. In addition the difference of the cost is very slight. I definetely recommend this package for mountaineers.

Room Tip: All rooms are on the second floor.

I recently stayed at Grove Inn Skala for one night. What a delightful inn. The service was exceptional. The innkeeper and his family were extremely welcoming and accommodated my every need. The hotel is clean and well maintained. I was given a recently renovated bedroom and couldn't be happier with the comfort level. The renovation is superb.

We have just returned from staying for 8 nights at Grove Inn Skala. There are not enough adjectives to describe how wonderful our experience was. We were a family of 7 travelling together which included our 11 month old Grand daughter. Any concerns that I had about taking a baby to the snow were quickly alleviated when I saw Osamu walking around with her baby Hannah strapped to her back and her little boy playing throughout the Inn. It was such a welcoming environment. Osamu is a wonderful cook and both the breakfasts and dinners were delicious. The couple went over and beyond to help us out and even gave us lifts straight to the ski fields when we (embarrassingly) missed the shuttle bus. My husband and I had a western style room which was so comfortable and had a view up the street towards the alps. The bathroom was brand new and spotless. Two of our sons shared a twin room next door which was also very comfortable. Our other son, his partner and their baby stayed in a Japanese style room with views of the woods. It was perfect for them with futons so they didn't have to worry about their little one, she had heaps of room to wander around. The couple that run the Inn took us to organise our rentals, booked tours for us, organised the black cat transfer of luggage for us, provided lift passes at a discounted rate and generally answered an endless amount of questions from us. Every evening we sat in the lounge taking turns in the massage chair and playing Uno. There was a large drying room downstairs and we could use the washing machine for 100 yen. Everything was so easy here. The walk into Echoland is lovely and there is a bus stop to Hakuba 47 just outside Skala and another bus stop to other resorts and the bus terminal a few minutes walk up the street. The memories of staying in such a beautiful Inn and looking out at the views from all the windows will stay with us forever but it's the hospitality from the family including Osamu's mum that made this stay.
