In a nutshell: A++ Highly recommended place to stay! Room was comfortable and clean, private baths were very nice and relaxing, and food was absolutely delicious! An unforgettable experience!
My husband and I went mountain climbing for two days and we decided to stay here to relax our bodies before heading back to Tokyo. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by friendly staff (owner I presume) . We stayed in room 103, and it was perfect! There was a nice seating area at the top and the beds were located below: perfect for laying down and watching tv.
They had 2 private baths : both were very clean and one had an open air bath as well. If you're like me and are not comfortable with being naked in front of strangers, this would be perfect for you! I was able to loosen my muscles and really relax in comfort with my husband (something that you can't really do in usual baths since male/female rooms are separated). You have to book the baths on a sign up sheet: busy times will allow for a 30 min slot, and I believe it was 45 mins for slow times.
The highlight would have to be the food. Both my husband and I left extremely satisfied (and full). I felt like I was eating at a fine dining restaurant. I could tell that a lot of thought, time, and effort were put into creating the dishes. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, the food kept coming. Climbing down for 8 hours made us very hungry, but I left feeling extremely full and satisfied. (please refer to photos I have uploaded)
Unfortunately, my husband had an injury while our decent, but they were kind enough to give us a bag of ice several times during our stay. The owner even drove us to the bus station the next day! I highly++ recommend staying here!
I've been in japan for just over half a year and I have been to several ryokans, and while this place may not be a traditional style ryokan, it was a perfect place for some R&R. Since the place can only fit a limited amount of people, they really put their time and effort into pleasing the guests. It was a nice change not eating a buffet in a large crowded dining hall and sharing a bath with numerous strangers ;)
