My friend found Yado on the web. It was a traditional Japanese inn. Took us a while to find it. The inn is very clean and staff are very friendly. The interior layout is very beautiful. Enjoy the serenity of the place. Very quiet at night. Meals are very delicious but it is quite strict in meal timing. 8-830am for breakfast and 1830 for dinner. That was to ensure freshness of the food. Must book the private onsen. The public one may get crowded as it is relatively small.

Daisuke-san, the owner of Yado Kanzan, ensured that our stay was a memorable one. There are only 6 rooms in the establishment, which is nestled in the heart of the Mt. Tanigawa Onsen district, so our stay was very calm and relaxing.

We were the only non-Japanese guests, and Daisuke-san did his utmost best to make our visit enjoyable - he provided us with a walking map of the area and recommendations on where to visit, explained what each of our dishes were during the lunch and dinner provided (The chef is Daisuke-san's mother), and gave us a massive flashlight and instructions on how to walk to the unused skiing area in order to see the stars Mt Tanigawa is so famous for.

We stayed in Ume Room, which had a bathroom attached, but all bathing is done in the onsen area downstairs. Apart from the small but well-stocked men's baths and ladies' baths, there is also the opportunity to book a 40-minutes slot to enjoy their private onsen, which affords beautiful views of the mountains outside.

Our meals were very memorable, and we enjoyed all the dishes, but the soft-shell crab tempura and the yuba (Beancurd Skin) particularly stood out for me. Everything was perfectly cooked and wonderfully turned out, and the last course of our dinner was music, played by Daisuke-san on a Shakuhachi (Japanese Bamboo Flute)
