“Perfect spot in San Jose”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 April 2012

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Rita and Steve at Casa Bella Rita.
Nestled in a lovely spot overlooking a beautiful gorge, we felt right at home.
Their place is lovely. Bedrooms equipped with wonderfully comfortable beds and nicely decorated with those lovely extra touches.
Rita offered to give us lots of great information before and during your stay. She will give you good advice on places to eat, activities and is happy to arrange excursions, car rentals and answer any questions. Steve makes a mean delicious breakfast all enjoyed on a lovely patio overlooking the gorge and watching the planes land in the distance.
We felt very safe and enjoyed not being right in the city centre. A quick easy bus ride gets you quickly and cheaply into town or to nearby shopping. There are many restaurants close at hand.
Thanks Rita and Steve. It was a pleasure to stay with you and have recommended it to our family and friends.

Room Tip: We prefered to stay in the main house on the upper floor. It was quieter and very private. You also...

We stayed at the Casa Bella Rita our first night in Costa Rica. Rita was so helpful while planning the trip, she answered so many questions, arranged for transportation for us, and gave great advice. We were picked up at the airport and brought to the most beautiful B&B. The room, bathroom, beds and the whole building and grounds are delightful. Steve and Rita are easygoing and relaxed, fun to visit with, and so helpful. Start out your trip here, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Canopy room, which was a great space for our family of four.

Rita and Steve are excellent hosts and they, particularly Rita, had a large impact on making our two week trip to Costa Rica a successful one. It all started while we were planning this, our first trip to Costa Rica. Rita was a terrific help with our trip planning. Once she understood what it was that we liked and wanted to do, she became our Costa Rica concierge. We didn't rent a car, so she set up all of our transport which was reliable and efficient. Many times we were very glad that someone else was doing the driving and navigating on the country's roads that ranged from divided highways to potholed narrow dirt roads on mountain passes without guard rails. Ask Rita about the Adventure Transport company which took us from their wonderful B & B outside of San Jose to La Fortuna and included a three hour white water rafting trip. Great! As for our other lodgings, all three of them received and deserved the "Rita Seal of Approval".
Another plus about Casa Bella Rita is that Steve provided a complimentary pick up at the airport which allowed us to bypass all of the clamoring cabbies who were competing for our business. After spending all day getting there and then clearing customs, it was a welcome relief to have him just take charge of us and get us "home" for the night. Their B & B is wonderful, spacious and more well appointed and comfortable than many places we've stayed. They know their business well and it shows in the small details including the quality of the linens, the comfort of the bed, the refrigerator and TV in the room and computer in the living room. And then there's the view! After traveling though a busy and dusty business district, you turn off on to their side road and after you get inside you immediately are treated to a gorgeous view of pastures with livestock across a deep stream valley. Breakfast was great and made to order and our choices included eggs, sausage and toast, and fruit, granola and yogurt. And the coffee and fresh juice were terrific. We were there one night each at the beginning and end of our Costa Rican adventure and they arranged for their taxi driving friends to help us get to our dinner restaurants (local sodas, both very good)and back.
We failed to follow Steve's advice to stop and pick up something for lunch at the airport and that was a big mistake. The food options at the San Jose airport are very limited, crowded and expensive! A stop ANYPLACE to pick up something to take to the airport would have been a much better choice.
We highly recommend Casa Bella Rita because on top of being a wonderful B & B, Rita and Steve are great hosts and are the kind of people that we would want as friends.

Room Tip: There's only 5 rooms and they're all nice.

This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast and my wife and I absolutely loved it. We arrived in the early afternoon on our last day in Costa Rica and was greeted at the door by Rita who make it feel like your staying with friends or family.

Before we even arrived in Costa Rica, Rita was incredibly helpful, providing us with rental car information, helped us schedule a transfer during the first leg of our trip, and put us into contact with a gentleman in La Fortuna (Matias) who helped us find local tours and also booked us a coffee roasting experience that was really fun. They also recommended a great restaurant in town where we may have had one of our best meals while in Costa Rica.

Their home is amazing and offers tremendous views of the canyon behind their home from both the patio and upstairs living room. We stayed in the Mariposa room and were very comfortable. The bed was really comfortable. In the morning, Steve made a fantastic breakfast with some local sausage and scrambled eggs and made sure that our coffee mugs were always full.

Steve and Rita were delightful and helpful hosts and we will definitely make sure that we stay at their amazing home next time we are in Costa Rica.

Steve & Rita went to great extents to ensure our stay at Casa Bella Rita was a perfect experience.

The hosts, the B&B facility, the breakfasts were exceptional - it was such a great way to begin and end our trip to Costa Rica. The B&B isin the best location - close to the airport & San Jose, but looking over the countryside that makes you feel you are miles away from the city.

Steve & Rita gave us so much assistance and information that made our 3 week vacation to
Costa Rica a memorable experience that we will always cherish.

Just adding our kudos and thanks to hosts Rita & Steve. They have created a charming & peaceful oasis near San Jose and catered to all our needs from helping us return our rental car to reserving a table at a wonderful restaurant (Bacchus) and setting up transportation there and to the airport the next day. It was a special treat to have air conditioning & a luxurious bath after "roughing it" for a week along the lovely but HOT Pacific coast. Breakfast was delicious & I brought home bags of the specially prepared Dota coffee as gifts. We will definitely return whenever in the San Jose area and recommend this spot to all our friends.

Room Tip: We were in Colibri which was wonderful but all the rooms looked great.
