We arrived for lunch at midday. From the start the young lady looking after us was welcoming and attentive. As the restaurant filled a second waitress was allocated to our table, maintaining a great level of service throughout. Enquiries about the menu and slight changes were handled naturally and without fuss.
The Peterboat cockle chowder is already legend and my cod 'n' chips was first class. My son raved about his sea bass and my daughter was satisfied with the range of vegetarian options. All round great value, an excellent experience.
So why only a 4 star? First, it's a pub and not a restaurant; for me 4 star for a pub is top review. Second, there isn't enough balance in the range of real ales; too many heavy flavoured over 4.5% options and not enough session beer. But that didn't impact me giving my top score.
