“Very good stay, excellent food and service”
Reviewed 21 January 2012

Had a very good week long stay here, food excellent including vegetarian option. Staff very friendly and attentive, rooms well equipped and newly refurbished, great location 5 mins from list, very clean, neat and tidy, even got packed breakfast when departing early, very enjoyable stay, nice mix of both local and international guests and staff,

Room Tip: as for a south facing room

We chose the Plein Sud mainly because of location and the reviews on Trip Advisor.

It is a 5 minute walk from the slopes, on a slight incline, some may not be too keen on this but to be honest I found it fine.

The hotel rooms are basic but clean which is all you need as you don't tend to spend too much time in the rooms anyway. The balcony had a couple of chairs on so you could sit out in good weather.

The buffet breakfast was lovely with a choice of croissants, pain au chocolat, cereal, yoghurts, fruit, boiled eggs, toast, french bread, ham & cheese.

Dinner was great with a choice of 2 dishes for starter & main and then a choice of desserts all of which was cooked to perfection.

There's a lovely little bar area where you can relax before/after dinner and the bar staff were extremely friendly and we had some lovely evenings there.

The owner is an English lady who was lovely and we had a good laugh with both her and all the staff who were extremely friendly.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for its food, friendlieness and cleanliness.

Serre Chevalier itself was immense, the offpiste opportunities are everywhere you look and there is a good range of slopes to suit everybody. Although the conditions could have been better we still had a great time and fully intend to return to experience it in better conditions and would certainly stay and the Plein Sud again.

4 Of us stayed in the Plein Sud in March, 3 snowboarders and 1 (weirdo) on ski's. I booked through an agent and it turned out to be a crystal Holiday package but i had deceided on the plein sud of the back of the reviews on tripadvisor.

The location is superb, less than 5 minutes to Chantmerle lifts which are the main hub of the serre chevalier area. Villeneuve has a little more life but is about a 5 minute free bus ride away, in short the loaction is perfect for the snow.

The staff were amazing, always polite always helpful and over the week developed some fun banter, especially with the waiting staff at the evening meal, mutual p$ss taking was greatly received by our group.

The food is awesome, we didnt have a mediocre meal let alone a bad one, exactly what you want after a day on the snow, breakfast is a buffet with world class coissants, however like the rest of the entire country the cofee wasnt great, why cant the french make coffee? All in all food superb.

Yes the room is basic and not partivuarly big but it depends what you are going for, if you are going to ski/Board, have a shower, go eat and then go have a few drinks then what more do you need, personally i think room size is overrated, its a place to sleep after hitting the snow, if i wanted to lounge around ona couch and watch TV id just stay at home.

It very quiet so dont go expecting a party, i think we were the youngest there at mid 30's.

Serre chevalier is an amazing huge and varied ski area and if we ever return we will without doubt be staying at the Plein sud again.

We have just returned from a week in the Plein Sud. The rooms are basic but very clean and spacious, the breakfast a little limited but still something for everyone, Cereals, Croissants, Hot Boiled Eggs, Ham, Cheese, Jam , etc and lovely French Bread
For Dinner, a choice of 2 starters and 3 mains with a buffet selection for dessert. Each night the dinner was of an excellent standard.
The view from our room was stunning-of the lifts going up and the black run back into the resort (there is an alternative to th black run back in-according to my partner-the skier). The skiing was excellent, however the lifts were very busy as we arrived as the French children were on half term, towards the end of the week it was much less crowded.
For myself as a non-skier, there were the free Ski buses (if you pick up a Pass-Partout at the hotel) to get to the other nearby places and a lovely mountain walk to and from Villeneuve. The staff were always helpful and all spoke English. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and resort.

A friend and I have just returned from a week at the Plein Sud and thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the trip. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff is helpful and friendly. We also found the quality of the meals (particularly dinner) to be excellent and far better than we had expected!

There wasn't really anything to critiscise other than the shower fixing being slightly the worse for wear but that was remedied by a piece of cord which remains in situ for future occupants! Also, the room lacked a bin other than the one in the bathroom but I guess we should have just asked for one. We did mention this on the hotel's own questionnaire so maybe one will appear soon.

We can both recommend Serre Che for a ski break. The snow was well groomed despite there having been no new snowfall for almost a month. Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Monetier all held up well and most pistes were open with some good reds and a really nice black down to Chantemerle of which we had a view from our balcony.

All in all, a very good hotel and a very nice resort. I would return.

Booked through Crystal - was expecting middle of the road, but found it to be much more than that. South facing rooms are a must (and we were kindly given a free upgrade) and are a good size and enjoy a great view of the Luc Alphand black run into town - perfect inspiration for each day on the pistes! Good selection at the breakfast buffet and the evening meals were consistently superb (as was the choice of wine!). Staff friendly, helpful, and delivered a high level of service throughout our week's stay.

We booked this holiday 2 weeks before departure, we were going to stay at a 4* hotel but decided on the Hotel Plein Sud and were pleased with our choice. The hotel owner Lynne was a friendly helpful lady and her staff were true professionals.
The rooms were clean and well loked after, a good boot & ski locker room, well situated to all amenities but the icing on the cake had to be the food-it was fab. Everything was so well presented, cooked to perfection and such a variation it was a delight to sit down each evening-like eating at a top restaurant every night.
We have visited many ski resorts and this has to be one of the best so much to ski, a well linked resort we shall return hopefully soon to both.
