“What a great way to spend the day with my new Chinese family”
Review of Doutuan Mountain

I'm going to write a bit of a blog review, with highlights and lowlights as there are no english reviews here yet. Also, it's best if you go with somebody that can translate for you.
We started at the bus station with my Chinese relatives haggling to get a private taxi to take 6 of us to the mountain. We got a small minivan for 80CNY one way. Dropped off at the bottom car park, 67CNY each adult ticket, then a 20 minute walk up to the next car park.
Had some lunch at a little local restaurant, 110CNY to feed us all, which the relatives said was abit expensive, i thought it was cheap. We then walked up 847 steps straight up, then another couple of hundred which I didn't count.
This is where the fun and education started. Without my lovely translators, I would not have known what was going on. Walk towards the gold symbols with your eyes closed, if you touch the wall and touch the gold symbol you will have long life or many riches, a lot of fun anyway. Then you move up the hill, past statues, temples, 1000 year old bells, kung fu exhibition, gorgeous views, amusement park, hotel, flying fox ride, sled ride and the usual food & touristy joints.
If you decide to go into a temple with "monks" to light some incense and pray, be prepared to "donate" 100CNY or more to hear about your future... Doh! No English, so you pay and hear nothing. After a lot of discussion, my Chinese relatives decided that this was a bit dodgy.
Past numerous other interesting sites (I won't give everything away) to the top where we paid 10CNY each adult to watch the tight rope act. The highlight at the top of the mountain.
Then back down the mountain to catch the bus back to JiangYou, 11CNY each.
In conclusion it was a fantastic day out, very educational, a lot of fun, great exercise, awesome photo opportunities and a great way to get to know my new Chinese relatives. Today we're off to LaiBai...
