“Enchanted austro-alpine wooden cabin paradise”

Pampered in every imaginable way in a super echo-friendly little village of 25 log cabins (entirely log where possible) and anything you need from Third Millennium luxury.

Room Tip: The choice is between several formulas all linked to fully equipped log cabins.

Almdorf Seinerzeit is the perfect mix between fine, true built mountain log cabins and 21st century luxury. The luxury itself comes from the staff who have a way of making you feel very good as from the time you arrive until the moment you have to leave. Breakfast is second to none, prepared and served to your liking in your cabin. Afternoon cake and coffee and the weekly pancakes followed by Karinthian diners are of a very high standardwhich are either served in your cabin or in the very cosy restaurant. We had some amazing weather during our two weeks stay which made us swim in the (ice) cold pond near the sauna area only to be warmed up by the adjacent sauna or hot tub with fantastic views. Although there is no designated children's area our 6year son loved to row the raft on the trout pond, the feeding of the rabbits, ... If you are looking to wind down this is a good place. If you need more action there are plenty of things to do in close range for kids, teenagers and the grownups ranging from blasting down the mountain with the nocky flitzer, mountain biking or take a short or longer hiking trip to a variety of museums or cable car trips.

Room Tip: Cabin 7 and 9 with great views into the valley and surrounding mountains. centrally located.

We spent a long weekend in this hotel-village near Bad Klein-Kirchheim, Kärnten, Austria in October. We were hoping for great hiking and outdoor opportunities and comfortable lodging and that's exactly what we found. The small cluster of free-standing cabins at ~1600m comprises a self-contained village complete with restaurant(s) and wine cellar featuring Austrian wines, spa/hot tub/pool facility and enough 'rustic comfort' to unwind and feel like you've gotten away from it all. We went in Fall and found enough scenery-packed trails and activities to keep the dog and ourselves occupied, though there are famous ski areas nearby to make Winter an optimal time to visit, too. The feeling is very 'Come as you are' and the staff does their part set an easy-going tone for your visit (being even a bit too familiar at times, perhaps) and offer their assistance. Each of the 3 categories of hand-hewn wooden cabins (we had the basic version) offer rustic comfort: wooden furnishings, fireplace, wood-burning stove, 'atmosphere' candles, simple linens. (Actually, the whole set-up is a fireman's nightmare: wooden structure with open fireplaces, candles in even the bedrooms etc. But it was certainly quaint and fire extinguishers were present.) Our cabin was on 2 floors, having 2 bedrooms and a full bathroom upstairs, living room with dinner table, breakfast nook, kitchen and full bathroom downstairs. The set up would have also been fine for a family with kids or two couples who know each other well and were traveling together--space was ample. (Because of the somewhat treacherous small, windy, steep stairs, however, I would not recommend our cabin type to couples with small children or elderly guests.) We were worried at first that our cabin would be cold as it had a prominent fireplace, but there was an additional source of warmth and all the rooms were toasty warm. It appears as if the entire 'village' generates all its own heat using wood and wood chips in its power plant, with even the hot tubs sporting tubes circulating warm air. Breakfast (included in the room price) was served in the cabin at a time which you designate. This means that you wake up to a set table of continental breakfast, hot coffee and a crackling fire--all waiting for you without having to change out of pajamas or face other guests. (A tip for those of you with a 'watchful' dog: to avoid problems, it might be best to insure that he is well-stowed before the 'breakfast fairy' enters your cabin with her key to set things up.) Dinner was served in the small, simply-decorated restaurant or in one of the other 'mini' restaurants which hold no more than 4 persons. It is highly advisable to book these in advance. And if you choose, dinner and lunch (complete with wine selection) could also be delivered to your cabin should you feel like remaining in your cozy retreat. Although they tried, we found the food with its regional slant to be acceptable but not fantastic, not gourmet level. And we had also hoped for a bit more selection/variety for breakfast. The food issue was really the only rather disappointing point we noted. At night if the weather permits, you can sit on your terrace and glance at the millions of stars that light up the sky. (Living near a neon-lit city lets you forget how neat it is see the sky lit up in a celestial fashion.) Modern day amenities were present: WiFi access, hair dryer etc and cleverly hidden behind a painting on the wall with a rope pull was a small TV, in case contact with the outside world proved unavoidable. (What a kick!) Due to traffic we got off the Autobahn and took land roads on what had apparently been a main Roman route. There were several road markers/ columns with roman inscriptions right at the side of the road, unprotected and beckoning for closer inspection. And the two thermal springs in Bad Klein Kirchheim were also Roman favorites. History all around! We hope to be able to return to Seinerzeit again as we had such a relaxing and enjoyable time.
