“A big thank you”
Reviewed 3 June 2012

Stayed at the hotel for three weeks to the end of April 2012 with my wife and one year old son and we all had a wonderful time. All the staff from the front desk through to the water sports staff couldn't do enough for us and made us feel really welcome.

The hotel is lovely, clean and spacious and very airy, the rooms are of a good size, with a balcony and the pool areas are plentiful. The food is varied and of a high standard and there are three restaurants to choose from.

All in all a great holiday and the hotel comes highly recommended.

G.McManus, London

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea or garden and are of a very good standard

so we decided to try the South Coast. The climate is definitely fresher, with a nice breeze and the beach is beautiful (especially as a lot of the West Coast beaches are suffering tidal erosion). The rooms are very spacious and clean and we were lucky enough to have an ocean view.
As mentioned by other reviewers, some restaurant staff were more friendly and helpful than others but overall we had very good service, and enjoyed the food at the hotel. We did dine out a couple of times, as we found the restaurant setting a bit noisy at times, especially with the entertainment being staged in the courtyard while we were dining, making conversation impossible.
We enjoyed our trips to two of the other Elegant Resort Hotels on the West Coast but were pleased to return to the more laid-back atmosphere of St. Laurence Gap. I would recommend this hotel to families and parties but not sure if it is an ideal romantic couples holiday

My partner & I flew to Barbados, knowing the island quite well, and wanting to go to the South Coast rather than the west for a more lively atmosphere (although the west is rated the platinum coast, apart from the high end dining there is very little by way of entertainment), in a nice resort where we could stay in or go out depending on our mood & we were not at all disappointed, staff / food / cleanliness / wedding package all excellent.
Location - This resort is ideally situated a 10/15 minute walk from St Lawrence's Gap or just 25 Barbados dollars from Oistins Fish Fry - the place to go on a Friday eve. That said, it is great for families or people wanting quiet too as the resort itself is located far enough away that it isn't affected by the evening revelers. Yes the sea is not as calm on the south but due to this the sand is softer & not as uncomfortable at the water's edge (quite a lot of coral / shell on west coast) also I find there are less sand flies - and as someone that gets bitten quite regularly this is a definite bonus! Obviously there are still a few mosquitoes buzzing about but this is around about dusk and to be expected everywhere on the island, just remember some spray - the only times I was bit I didn't have any repellant on.
Workers - The restaurant staff were excellent Sherral, Michelle & Lucia in particular were wonderful, but to be honest there was not one rude or unhelpful person, everyone went out of their way to help.
Bar staff, Ryan, Durran, Damian, Wendy & Winston were fabulous, they always had a bit of chat whether it was in the day time getting a soft drink or evening requesting a cocktail that wasn't on the list! If they know what's in it they will make it and if they don't you tell them and they will.
Rosalind the wedding co-ordinator & the activities team are great, will assist with any additional requests & go out of their way to make your wedding / holiday as memorable and perfect as possible. - Thank you!!!
Water Sports team - Although we didn't use any of the equipment, Captain Sam, Ricky & Dario always had a chat and they were lovely, lovely guys.
Salon - I had my nails & hair done for my wedding and the prices were very reasonable, and the ladies lovely!

Food - excellent, the lovely Trevor one of the chef's in the Waterfront always has a smile & chat, and there was a decent variety, however if you do have dietary requirements or aren't happy if you let them know they will take requests & do their best for you. Waterfront & Chelonia are a mix of buffet & al a carte the menu is put out in the morning, but Asiago is always A la Carte and we had a few meals there and every single time it was fabulous!

Rooms - Clean & a very good size. We experienced a couple of problems with the amenities. My husband went to iron his wedding suit & thankfully left it to heat up, rather than getting straight started as we would at home as someone had put coffee in our iron & it was spitting black liquid out all over the place. (I had been planning on steaming my dress with it too so thankfully I hadn't got it out yet!!!) We took it back to reception and they said it would get replaced but didn't hear anything back or get a replacement. This isn't the sort of behaviour you'd expect here as all the holiday-makers are happy & lovely so not sure what a*se staying there did it but thankfully it didn't end in disaster! Just thought I'd mention it as I wouldn't want it to happen to anyone else, wedding dress or everyday clothes!
The air con was a bit intermittent but maintenance were generally very good at getting it fixed, however it was broken (or maintenance day) on my wedding day so getting ready was not a pleasant experience as it was roasting so if it feels a bit warm before report it ASAP! & the hairdryer didn't work the entire time we were there but I'd packed my own so I left it. These were the only problems we experienced the entire time though and compared to the enjoyment we had we didn't make a fuss.

We would definitely like to recommend Turtle Beach and we hope to return to catch up with fellow wedding / honeymooners we met, next year!

Room Tip: We had garden / pool room on ground floor rather than balcony and were quite happy. It meant we cou...

Stayed here for our honeymoon lasy year, Hotel was ok, clean and rooms a nice size.
Restaurant staff tho were so rude except one or 2 bubbly lady's most days we struggled to get a Glass of water and if we asked staff would be so rude!!
Food was excellent however all 3 meals were lovely and so much choice, I wouldn't go here as a couple it seemed only ok if you were in a large group or had kids really.
They played the football so loud in the restaurant which is in the middle of the pools and sea and so at times felt like we may as well had gone to benidorm!
The location is ok but on a very rough part of the sea so we didn't get to enjoy the beach much.
The spa was lovely Tho had a great massage.
The guys in Captain SAMs were great tho, they would find you beds every day and bring drinks round. The rest of the staff need to learn from these guys!

We changed our hotel at the last minutes as the Almond beach and spa had terrible reviews and thank goodness we did (it looked like Colditz !!) Turtle beach had good reviews and it more than ticked all the boxes. Short journey from the airport, room ready to walk into, cold beer and food that no one should be able to find fault with.
Also made a trip to the sister hotel the water was much calmer there so it was easier to swim in....
everything was super.. could not fault it in any way

We spent 10 days at Turtle Beach. Had a great time. Sea was warm and great for body boarding. Captain Sam is always there to make you feeel safe in the water. My son made lots of friends and played cricket on the beach. Breakfast was american style-pancakes,french toast, bacon, sausages, bean, eggs cooked to order, friut, yoghurts, porridge, cereals etc and is avalible 7.30-10.30. Lunch at the waterfront was wraps made to order, burgers, hotdogs. fish, pasta, salads, chips, fruit, pudding, cakes etc, and is avalible 12.30-3.30. Dinner at both restaurants was lovely. The Chelonia is always a buffet, and the Waterfront is a la carte, with perfectly sized meals. There was also afternoon tea every day from 4pm-5.30pm serving sandwiches, cakes, scones. You will not go hungry!!!
We went on the Habour Master boat trip. Did snorkeling and swimming with turtles. Then they moor by a beach and lower a 70ft slide into the sea.Great fun! Then they take you back along the west coast playing music which people could dance to.
All in all a great holiday.

We have just had the most wonderful holiday at Turtle Beach, the room was fabulous on the beach ( a junior ocean front veiw suite ) the staff are amazingly freindly.Food wonderfull in all 3 restaurants and a full house breakfast to die for !Fabulous beach area with plenty of padded sun loungers and thanks to Captain Sam and his staff for watersports. The sea is pretty choppy with it being on the South Coast so not reccomended for young children. We where so impressed that we wanted to stay another week, our room was vacant and the Hotel only at half capacity, however Virgin-SHAME ON YOU ! wanted £142-00 each for the following week admin/ticket charge back to Manchester. However we will be back next year as this was our third visit to this wonderful island paradise and will book 2 weeks instead of one
