Incredible vacation. Resort is only 72 rooms, all ocean front, steps from water. Staff incredible, nothing too much trouble. Water sports, great dining, and quiet realaxing pool. Swim with Sea Turtles just minutes doen the beach. Absolute paradise!

Just got back from a week at this fantastic resort. If you are looking for beautiful white sand, turquoise water and no crowds, this is the place. The resort is very quiet. Read 2 books in 7 days! They have all the toys (catamarans, paddleboards, kayaks, snorkeling gear) which can use for free. Ryan and Romario will teach you how to use any of the equipment. They are both terrific! They showed us how to sail the catamaran and swim with the turtles (which is really a lot of fun. They do it every afternoon at 3pm. You get to swim with them, pet them- watch your fingers!- really a great time) . You definitely want to walk 100 yards down the beach (to the right) for lunch at JuJu's. We did that pretty much every day (but bring cash, they don't take credit cards). Right next door to Jujus is The Lone Star. Great restaurant for dinner. Beautiful setting, excellent food (but not cheap). They DO accept credit cards. You should pay the extra for the car service to and from the airport. Emmerson picks you up in his BMW 5 series and treats you like royalty. Well worth the extra money. Two downsides to this resort: 1) Everything is expensive. It's Barbados. Get used to it. (If you want to save a few bucks, take a cab to the grocery store that's 1 mile down the road and buy a case of beer. ($1/beer US vs $7 at the hotel). The hotel even brought us a separate refrigerator for our beer!). 2) The only thing we didn't like about the resort is the guys who sell stuff on the beach. I'm surprised there isn't more written about this in the TripAdvisor reviews. You get approached about every 10 minutes by guys who want to sell you trinkets, jetski rides, foot rubs etc. They are all very polite but you do get very tired of saying "no thank you". At least in Jamaica they limit how often they can walk onto the property. The beaches in Barbados are all public so I guess they can't do anything about it. Don't let this dissuade you from staying at the hotel- it is just a minor inconvenience. All-in-all, it is a beautiful resort and we would definitely go back.

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor. It's great to be able to just walk out onto your patio and then another 15 steps to the water.

Dear mike k

Thank you so much for such a great review.

At Fairmont Hotels we believe that people are our biggest assets and feedback such as yours reinforces our belief. I am blessed to be working with a group of highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals who take personal pride in delivering warm, intuitive and personalized service for all our guests. Your kind words have been shared with Ryan, Romario and the rest of the team and they are grateful for it.

I apologize for the inconvenience you experienced from the beach vendors during your stay. You are correct, the beaches in Barbados are public and as a result we are limited in the response we can take when these instances do occur.

It was indeed a pleasure having you at Fairmont Royal Pavilion and we look forward to welcoming you again soon.

Just returned from our 23rd year of visiting the Royal Pavilion and we're already planning our next visit ! Recent reviews echo our thoughts and it is noticeable how many first timers become repeat guests - that just goes to show that this is a truly special place. For us it really is a 'home from home' as we have grown up with so many of the staff working here and our visits are an opportunity to catch up with their lives - we have seen so many managers come & go but the core team of people remain constant from our early days and it is always hard to say goodbye when we leave ! It would be impossible to single out individuals for special mention as they are all so good, however, having previously complained about inconsistent beach service it was such a pleasure to have nothing to moan about this year - thanks to Tennyson for getting it sorted out and special thanks to Ray who was an absolute star !
The whole vibe in the hotel was good this year which the new management team has to take credit for.
As has been said in many other reviews, if you are looking for a sterile, highly polished, formal 5 star hotel then this isn't the place for you, but if you want a fabulous, relaxing holiday on the best beach in Barbados with friendly, happy staff and a real 'country house' feel then this is absolutely the right place.
Already looking forward to returning next year.

I stayed here with my husband for 6 nights and it was our first time in Barbados. Well although the hotel is a bit tired in parts and probably needs some money spent on it we simply loved it. The staff are wonderful, efficient and extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are spacious and well appointed with plenty of wardrobe and draw space (never usually enough I find) and air conditioning works perfectly (very important), comfy beds and great cushions.

The pool is a little underwhelming being a simple rectangular design but it's adequate and plenty large enough, the loungers are very comfortable with plenty of towels and the surrounding trees make it feel very tropical with even a wild monkey or two to be heard. The grounds are lovely and the beach area is fantastic with all rooms facing the sea as the hotel is right on the beach. The sea is just perfect clear and calm so wonderful to swim in.

We did not eat at the hotel apart from breakfast, which was good with plenty of choice and situated near the pool outside overlooking the sea, as the restaurants in the area are amazing. Little birds come up and will happily share you breakfast with you if you let them. Not to be missed is the cliff, (book ahead) the cliff beach bar, the tides and lone-star to name but a few oh and fish-pot. We also hired a catamaran to swim with the turtles which was amazing and a memory to be treasured. I will definitely be returning but hope that the new owner will spend some money on refurb as it is really a hotel to be preserved and treasured just as it is. A special thank you to all the lovely ladies in concierge who made our stay so very memorable.

The hotel itself is in a gorgeous setting right by the beach. From the lobby to the spacious and clean rooms, to the dining area with views of the sea makes the hotel a really fantastic place to spend a holiday.
From the time of arrival and departure at the hotel, you are treated like royalty. Greeted with smiles, cool wet towels and Rum punches then on day of departure all the front office staff know you by name and give warm hugs goodbye. Honestly Fairmont staff are warm, friendly and welcoming.

I want to say a special thank you to Livingston who sadly we did not see on our last day to thank him personally. I hope management will pass this on to him. Livingston made my 2 friends and I feel so special. Each morning and I mean each morning he would meet us as we went for breakfast, asked us what we were doing for the day. We spent most mornings at the beach so he took our drinks order, picked the perfect spot, prepared our sun-beds and towels, even laid magazines on each sun bed and got us each our floats which he knew we liked to use when having a dip in the sea. This personal service I have only experienced at Fairmont. Nothing is too difficult or a hassle. Fairmont is fortunate to have Livingston working for them. Based on Livingston's services I am now recommending Fairmont to anyone looking for a hotel in Barbados.

Ryan is also a true asset to the hotel. He took us swimming with the turtles which we enjoyed and gave clear instructions. He taught one of my friends how to snorkel. Once again he is so personable and friendly you feel like you have known him forever.
Overall I have only two suggestions;
1) to further perfect your already delightful buffet breakfast it would be good to add more variety of meat/fish/veg options preferably with a local twist for those who don't eat pork and love the taste of Caribbean food.
2) when guests are departing offer a packed lunch either as complimentary or a small charge. By the time we got to the airport and waited 2hrs to board we were so hungry and all we could think of was the lovely afternoon tea we had missed.
