Having just read the bad reviews for this place we are now bitterly disappointed with our experience this afternoon. It now seems it would have been far better to antagonise Innes to enhance the experience!

If you are unintelligent and/or short of a sense of humour you will suffer the wrath of Innes! If not, you will enjoy truly spectacular food and hilarious hospitality.

Thanks for a great afternoon and, thereafter, an amusing evening reading your responses to the bad reviews.

PS. We only noticed the sign on the way out. Brilliant.

Havercroft's is a cornerstone of Stanford and the perfect place for any special occasion or just a long, relaxing weekend lunch. The menu is mouth-watering and exquisitely well balanced. Brydon is an absolute whiz in the kitchen (the Chicken Ballotine is my all-time favourite, though the fish curry has won my heart over lately). But the star attraction in this little gem of a restaurant is the Mistress of Ceremonies, Innes. Her recital of the menu is worth a booking by itself, and her witty banter throughout the service is full-on entertainment.

Patio seating is divine and the view breathtaking. Plan to stay most of the afternoon, bring friends, and let Innes tell you which local wines are the best. Then prepare to be dazzled and delighted, your tastebuds wooed, and your deepest foodie cravings fully satisfied. As Innes says once you've placed your order, 'That's it!'

Sublime food with a world-class menu, quaint setting with idyllic mountain views, and a powerhouse husband and wife team, with Brydon at the helm in the kitchen and Innes ensuring her guests only get served the best of the best. This is no ordinary dining experience - Thank you Havercrofts, we will absolutely be back for more of those delectable Devilled Kidneys!

Should have guessed when I was asked for a deposit when making the booking that I would be told we don't take credit cards, so bring cash. The whole booking arrangement is a complete nonsense, with multiple Whatsapps, and transferring cash by eft.
Considering that this restaurant(sic) uses the less expensive ingredients (see the pic of their blackboard menu still unchanged), there is no excuse for it being one of the most expensive in the area, having not found higher prices anywhere else. The owners response to a similar complaint was "if you think we are expensive then a toasted sandwich at the local farmstall is more akin to your taste and pocket", might well try that next time. Having said that, the food though limited is well presented and deserving of three stars. Limited menu and wine list with a hurried service with little or no ambiance.

It is perfectly normal at this time of year to request deposits for bookings, and it is a simple process. The only time we have to send whats app messages or call guests after the initial request is to chase up the payment of the deposit to secure a table, our guests pay a deposit without an issue at all. Clearly in your case it sounds as though we had to chase you for payment as we have other guests waiting to see if tables are available. With regards to our ingredients, how on earth you can say that they are less expensive (less expensive to what one asks!!!) is complete and utter nonsense. Not sure where you shop but it is definitely not the quality places that we source our ingredients, local artisan suppliers predominantly who take great care and attention in producing their goods. You have certainly NOT eaten in comparable restaurants in the area and we can guarantee that we are NOT priced above them, in fact we are priced lower than quite a number. We note that on your profile there are NO other reviews for restaurants in the area!!!! With regards to the picture of our menu unchanged - have no idea what you are talking about, the devilled kidneys will stay on the menu and has done for 15 years now, cant take it off. Two other starters are new during the last two weeks so cant work that one out. We have changed 3 main courses in the last two weeks also only retaining the fish curry which again, is a dish we cant take off. All very bizarre to be frank. We are delighted that you will rather go to the local farmstall next time, quite clearly we are not for you. Oh and a very happy christmas to you - scrooge certainly has a place at this time, we can hear the chains clanking.
