Number 22, as per one of the previous reviews, is very pleasant and spacious with a lovely view of the stars when it's not cloudy! Douglas, Virginia and team were very welcoming, including two free lifts which was over and above what one would expect. This is a quiet hotel, catering mostly for people looking for a quiet getaway - don't expect rock 'n' roll, but if you just want to chill out and enjoy the spectacular scenery, this one's for you! Facilities are more than adequate including breakfast for 3 Euros per person per day and a very nice hotel restaurant (they will even make you a picnic for your day out if you wish). On nights when we ventured in Barlovento itself, we particularly enjoyed eating at "El Asador del Campesino" where many of the locals eat, and if you fancy a little wander uphill a bit, you will find a little gem of a restaurant called "La Pradera", again with plenty of genuine Canarian dishes on the menu.

Visited in March 2017 for one night as we were travelling around the island to escape from a large chain hotel in the south. It proved to be an interesting experience. On arrival, the Dutch receptionist was excellent, although we were a little taken aback by the vintage vibes in our room (pine furniture, four piece pastel bathroom suite).
The hotel is in remote windswept location and overnight we had a storm, dogs barking and cockerels crowing. The small spa was reasonable, but the steam room and sauna need to be booked in advance, to make sure they are switched on. The Set Menu evening meal was well served by the staff, if a little high in carbs and potassium! The buffet beakfast was a little basic, but more than adequate.
Having said that, this is a hotel that has lasting entertainment value, with the guests from a cultural strata not normally experienced in hotels in the Canaries.
Overall, good value for a short stay, but you need a car and a be able to embrace the idiosyncrasies. The owner is to be applauded for keeping the only hotel going in the north of La Palma, providing a refuge for weary travellers and a boost to the local economy.

True: at first sight, the hotel is bit outdated. Paint is a bit scruffy, the pool has seen better days. But, at a second look you see a very welcoming, staff, that speaks very good English and wishes to pamper you. Really nice prices, a good menu and special attention to those who have special requests. The food was very good, lovely breakfast, nice beds en wonderful surroundings. No airco available, very quiet rooms. Not fit for people who have a difficulty walking, lots of stairs. We will come back!

La Palma Romantica Hotel is without a doubt our favourite hotel. We have now visited 5 times at various times of the year. It is placed in a well wooded ravine which has a fine view of the sea and the mountains behind.
Writing this 5th review I must say that we look for an hotel that is peaceful, comfortable, well cared for with courteous staff and management and of course a good choice of food interestingly presented and well served. Romantica ticks all these 'boxes'
However it should be said that this hotel is not for those who want entertainment all the time, as it has an ageless appeal of gentle calmness for rest and quiet.
Douglas and his staff are helpful, attentive and are always available, Raquel who is mainly in reception is a mine of information always ready to share it, Virginia again is very helpful and welcoming especially at meal times.
The grounds and gardens are delight of colour at all times of the year and they have 3 bungalow suites, just a short way from the main, building which give even more peace and tranquility.
Hopefully we shall be back in the near future, thank you again Douglas, Virginia, Raquel and colleagues for another wonderful holiday.

Although the furniture is a bit dated, it must have been of very high quality initially as it still performs perfectly. Very large bedrooms, all with smart balconies & very good bathrooms. Staff were exceptional, especially Raquel & Eva on reception. Massive Car park & a couple of excellent restaurants within 10 minutes walk The food in the hotel was pretty basic but well cooked. The breakfast offering we thought was excellent, lots of hot or cold selections. If it is not so warm, there is a big log fire in the bar area. Local wines unique & very drinkable indeed. Bus service from Barlaveto, 15 minutes walk, is good every hour No 100 Weather disappointing, but really enjoyable stay, I suggest B & B rather than half board. Even better in May/June I suspect

Room Tip: Room 24 was excellent
