The buildings and furnishings are nice and comfort but a bit dated. Dinner and breakfast were fine but nothing special. The service was very good and we got helpful advice about walks. They provided pack lunches.

Going to this hotel was indeed a terrible decision. I'm no fussy person nor posh, it's really easy to please me ... give me a quiet, comfortable and clean room and I'm happy!

This hotel failed us in every possible way. Is old, poorly look after, food is crap and so is its location. The only positive thing I can say is in regards to the the staff working at the reception, always helpful and positive.

La Plama is such a wonderful island, don't ruin your holiday by staying in this terrible place. It's no value for money and for that sort of rates you can get MUCH MUCH better deals in other hotels.

LOCATION:

The place is located in the middle of nowhere (which is also one of the rainiest places in the all island). It probably the worst place to be in the island as is basically far from everything. Expect at least a 30 minute drive to every time you want to do something outside the hotel.

FOOD:

The breakfast "buffet" is one of the saddest things I've ever seen. The food was horrible, even the local products tasted bad. The chorizo slices for example tasted like paper, the Jamon was sliced without even bothering removing the crust. Clearly no clue on how to serve, prepare food properly.

The eggs were tasteless and looked like they have been cooked (maybe microwaved) a week before being served. The bacon looked so bad I didn't even have the courage to touch it. Coffee machine was old and the coffee was coming out watery and bitter.

Juices where clearly coming from a cheap supermarket and were simply transferred to a jug for display purpose.

The dinner menu was a joke (haven't even bother trying), there is nothing around the hotel so you are basically forced to eat there unless you are ready to drive for min. 30 minutes.

ROOMS:

The furnitures are indeed very old, which is not a big deal for me but really have nothing romantic (we had a suite booked). The "double" bed is just 2 single mattresses paired together and they were old and uncomfortable. You can feel the metal sprung on your back.

The room was EXTREMELY noisy, you can basically hear what your neighbours are thinking. Door banging all over the place, they also had a genius idea to put some communal areas in front of some of the rooms.

The bathroom had no window but instead they placed a grid just next to where you shower, so you can feel the cold air pushing towards you while showering. I guess this is fine in summer but in winter trust me wasn't the best. Above the bathroom door there was also a big grid so all the nice scent that may diffuse in the bathroom will nicely spread all over your room.

The terrace was ok, with a good view indeed, good luck opening the door though.

FACILITIES:

The indoor swimming-pool was all right but very limited space to lay down. There were literally 4 deck chairs.

The "spa" is old and falling apart, the steam room was out of service, the sauna has no timer, you can't add water and the wooden bits were all wobbly. The whirlpool bath looked dirty and not working properly.

Room Tip: The room in the main building are extremely noisy and give you zero privacy. You can hear everything going on in the others rooms.

It has been our pleasure to have visited this hotel six times in the last five years and eatime we have had the warmest of welcomes with service second to none. The quiet friendly

ambience together with the superb hospitality and food makes the hotel a must for those looking for that special place to unwind and relax. La Romantica is not for those who want all the trappings of the modern hotel which offers everything. It's ' Old worldly' charm and care where nothing is too much trouble and advice freely given by people who love their island and want to share it with you. The food is well served and the three course menu, with interesting Canarian twists from time to time, offers exceptional value. The a la Carte menus offers a wide choice, always delicious and presented with care. Their beef and lamb dishes are especially good both in quality and price. Douglas, Virginia, Raguel and the La Romantica team are always there to help. If you are looking for comfort, peace, good food and 'Old fashioned care' then come to Hotel La Romantica in Barlovento where you will not be disappointed. We cannot wait until our next visit in September. Thank you La Romantica yet again.

Very nice hotel, with very service minded staff from reception, servants and everybody else. The reception found out it was my husbands birthday, told the restaurant, and in the evening he was surprised with birthday cake with candlelight and a birthday song. The area around Barlovento very beautiful. Do not miss this hotel. You get valuta for your money.
We will be back.
The restaurant is very good too

We stayed for 3 nights just before Christmas at this hotel. Overall we were more than satisfied with our stay. Hotel staff are very friendly, especially Raquel at reception. The hotel is surprisingly large for such a rural setting. It certainly could not be called cutting-edge and the interiors have evidently not seen much change since the 1970's, however we found our rooms to be comfortable and quite spacious. The bathroom was fine too, although it was hard to find an optimum temperature for the shower. There was no noise disturbance whatsoever at night. Food was good, both breakfast and dinner (the half-board rate is very reasonable).
The hotel has a decent indoor pool with sauna and steam room and jacuzzi.
For change of location for supper, El Asador del Campesino on the edge of Barlovento can certainly be recommended (oven-baked goat is excellent).
There are excellent walks to be had in this area of La Palma.
