I have stayed at Quinta San Antonio three times now, once with family, once with friends and once as a couple and every time it has suited our needs perfectly. It’s unusual to find such a large and well-equipped villa that has been able to keep plenty of Portuguese authenticity and charm. All of the bedrooms are large, spacious and pristine but the upstairs bedroom is particularly impressive with its large bathroom and its own outdoor space overlooking the hills. As a runner, I found the area particularly beautiful to go for an early morning run or sunset walk and the locals extremely friendly.
The villa is great for those looking for a relaxing holiday and big barbeques by the pool or meals in traditional but varied restaurants in the local town. The chicken piri-piri place in Sao Bras is incredibly good value and after 20 years of visiting the Algarve, I’m yet to find better! If you’re looking for something a little more to do, you’ll probably need a car, we ventured to Loule for the shops and market and Vale do Lobo for some more upmarket restaurants and some livelier bars, which were good fun. As the villa is only 20 or so minutes from the airport it’s relatively easy to get to so I’m already planning on returning in 2013 for a long weekend.More
