We stayed 5-19th August, it was our second time at Alykanas Village, the first time we came was Aug 2010. We loved it both times and would definitely go back. We travelled with our 15 year old daughter and 21 year old daughter and her boyfriend so we had 2 studios over reception in the 800's block, we had views over the pool and could see the sea and Kefalonia too, rooms lovely and had been decorated since our last visit, maids came daily, towels were changed 3 times a week and bedding the same but rooms mopped and cleaned daily, bins emptied etc. Gloria the manager is a lovely lady who cannot do enough for you, she is so nice and always stops for a chat. I found that this time the reps weren't as good, although Gem, Tash and Sam were really lovely and went out of their way. I especially liked Gem she was really lovely and genuine and spent a lot of time talking to us she is a great girl. I just felt that last time the aqua splash was much more fun it was packed where this year hardly anyone did it. The evening entertainment last time was really busy & you couldn't get a seat but this year it was so quiet, we did go down there most nights to support Gem and Tash as they worked so hard and the evenings were good but not like last time where the room was full & everyone joined in, I think if they bring back Jazzy Jamie and Diva Danii and combine them with Gem and Tash it would be perfect! The restaurants near by are lovely, our favourite is the Paradosiako Inbetween Alykanas and Alikes it's amazing and the best by far. Cosy corner was horrible, we waited 2.5 hours for food and it was awful, the owner is abrupt, don't bother! Doinisis was lovely, La Caretta was lovely, Neraida on the beach is lovely with a lovely setting although only a small menu & our vegetarian daughter struggled but it is nice. Fidelio's and the Relax bar in Alikes were nice too, we paid between €45 and €70 for meals with a couple of drinks and sometimes dessert and there's 5 of us so not bad at all. The shop on site is really good, cheaper to get drinks there for round the pool than the pool bar, inflatables cheap too €7.50 for a lilo last year we paid 20 in Cyprus! Dogs not a problem, saw 2 but they wandered through and didn't bother anyone. Sunbeds are an issue, it's a cant beat them join them situation so be up for 7.30 for a decent one! Reps don't move the towels, I saw it once on my last day, so not consistent at all. All in all this is a lovely place, ideal location, Gloria is Lovely, it's clean, rooms nice people nice, restaurants close by and shops, it is everything you need for a lovely holiday in the sun, we love it and would go back. My only gripe is the reps this time weren't as good, last time we knew them all they were really friendly & always chatted, the entertainment was amazing. This time only 3 reps bothered to talk to us, the rest couldn't care less, but that's for Thomson to sort out its not a reflection on the hotel. Go and book it, you'll love it :)

We stayed at Alykanas Village for 2 weeks from 5th - 19th August with 2 sons aged 10 and 2 and have just returned 2 days ago. We chose this hotel due to the Thomson kids club and its location right on the safe sandy beach. After having been to the picturesque Cala D'or area in Mallorca for numerous years it was necessary to try somewhere new. We didn't want to do all inclusive as we prefer to eat out in various places. We were very impressed with the running of the hotel, the Thomson staff were all great, our youngest went into the creche several times during our stay and we found the facilities spot on. The fact that there is constant air-con on in the designated kids club block is a real plus and they have so much to do, staff very professional. Joseph loved going there to get a couple of hours away from the heat of the sun and to take part in activities. For those with families this hotel is ideal as the parents get a break too. It costs only 5 euros for the evening 'pyjama' party which consists of a greek night (food included), or chocolate party, and all the daytime clubs were free with drop-in sessions twice a day for 3 - 11 year olds. We are going to return next year as it made such a difference to have all this included, meaning we could have a bit of time off in the day then go out as a family in the evening to sample the local tavernas. Each of these we tried, though we tried Paradosiako twice and the Lemon Tree twice. Take the horse and cart, it's not expensive and is a lovely experience, they let our older son take the reins which he was delighted about! Food at Paradosiako was extremely good, as was the place next to Bonkers Bar (not cosy corner) - traditional greek food, elia edias (sp?) as you walk out towards the main street. Lemon tree has a very good kids area round the back with slides, swings and bouncy castle and food very resonable. All the restaurants we tried had childrens menus and I don't think we ever paid more than 50 euros for the four of us and that was including 1 litre wine, colas, soft drinks and usually starters and/or pud. We tried the Mill which is about 5 or 10 minutes' walk along the beach (for the Greek night on friday night) perhaps it was because our youngest was tired so we actually left at 11 pm, but we found this place disappointing considering we had paid 19 euros per adult, food was mediocre, not very good quality and restaurant very overcrowded. Probably would have been ok as a couple though. Location of everything was amazing, just walk along the beach to the left of the hotel and after 50 metres you find our favourite afternoon relaxation spot - the "Ammos Bar" this place is a daytime bar, cool and trendy with good (loud) music ranging from pink floyd to trad greek, swinging hammocks, shaded palm trees and the sea/beach 10 metres away, we spent several afternoons here sitting under the shade with a drink getting some 'adult' time while boys were at their clubs. Excellent greek salads too! Now for the hotel itself: we had initially a room near the front 752 (not a very good view) but Gloria moved us after 2 nights to 115 - beautiful first floor sea view. We had the sunrise and sunset view, with views across the bay. Room was on the small size considering there were 4 of us, so I would go for a 2 bed apartment next time (the studio in 752 was bigger and had room divider, which the second one did not have). Bathrooms very tiny but considering you only use them a short time it did not matter. no shortage of hot water, towels, loo roll etc. . Rooms cleaned to high standard every day and towels changed every couple of days, sheets etc. Nothing to complain about - the aircon was 5 euros a day and we did need it, so asked for it to be turned on after a few days- when you cdnsider it is only the price of a couple of drinks it is not much to pay for the comfort. Mini market on site had everything you could ask for and not badly priced. The pools were great, very clean. I preferred the quiet one down near the sea (a few steps down to the beach) no music here but deeper than the other pools, the other main pools did get a bit crowded, usual towels on sunbeds thing - but we found the reps did come round once or twice to remove towels if beds were unattended early in the morning.. Most people seemed to send a family member down to place towels early in the morning and lie and 'guard' the bed, drinking coffee until the rest of their party arrived, I did it a couple of times but mostly we were not too bothered about getting beds, by the time we'd come back from the beach or hiring a boat there was always somewhere to sit, there is no much space around the pools you could easily lie on a towel on the grass if you wanted to. I'd recommend hiring a boat, we did this one day at a cost of about €75 (on the beach, go left about 10 metres), these are motor boats with a canopy over so you don't get burned. We took both boys out and did snorkelling at blue caves and some small beaches we found which were idyllic and such clear water. Definitely avoid the organised boat trips, these are overcrowded, hot and sticky and you do not get the food you are promised. We couldn't wait to get off the boat (large red boat with water slides coming off the back) The hotel (Thomson) entertainment team in the evening were aimed mainly at the children, with T-time live at 8.30pm until 9.30 I have to say the highlight of my youngest son's day was seeing the 'Thomson the dog' on stage, but there again he is only 2! The reps we spoke to were very helpful and got to know our boys during our stay. Both of them are missing the hotel and want to go back, so that is a good sign. Saw a few reviews about annoying stray dogs... We saw only 2 dogs the whole stay and these were definitely not on the hotel site but along the beach - the lookie lookie men are around and about selling the fake ray bans, but disappear if you wave them away. If you want 5 star luxury and spa pampering this is not for you, but if like us you want a convenient base, with childrens entertainment, at a close distance to good local greek tavernas (no Mcdonalds or burger bars here, fortunately) and a beautiful sandy and clean beach at your fingertips, do give it a try - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Room tip: Go for one with a sea view - and ground floor if you have a buggy. blocks 1 and 2 I think.

We returned to the Alykanas village last week in July, first week in August after a superb holiday last year! All I can say as we had an even better time this year than last which we didn't think could be possible!!!! Myself, my husband and 2 daughters 5 and 3 had a fantastic holiday and really didn't want to come home!! We love the hotel which is kept spotlessly clean!!! This year we thought the Reps were superb! Our daughters loved the 'drop in' kids club as it meant they could go and do things together. All of the kids club reps were superb and did a fantastic job. Our girls loved Rachel, Hayley and Ella to name a few but they all work really hard to keep the kids happy!

Becky the holiday advisor worked really hard and was always friendly and helpful and made our holiday as a family really personal. Handy Andy, Tash and Gemma were brilliant with the entertainment both day and night!!!! We went on the play away pirates trip with Becky and Andy and had a fabulous time! I have to say the whole team of reps were second to none this year.

We did have an unfortunate incident when our youngest daughter jumped into the pool backwards and cut her chin open on the poolside (worst nightmare). I immediately took her to the reps for first aid and Hayley and Ellie were amazing!!! They took her into kids club and brought out Thomson the dog to take her mind off it and tell her how brave she was. Gloria the manageress was superb in organising the Doctor who visits the hotel each day! ( yes that's right they have one on site) to come to our room and the doctor stitched the wound there!! Gloria was amazing. I cannot fault how the whole team supported this situation which meant no taxi ride in sweltering heat to Zante town and hours sat in A and E. We yet again had an amazing holiday and we have already booked to go back next year! Can't wait to go back. If you want a superb family holiday then book here!!!

Room tip: Rooms facing the sea and small pool are amazing

We came back from Alykanas Village on Friday after 2 brilliant weeks of fun in the sunshine.
We were lucky to have a poolside ground floor room which was great for nipping back for drinks etc... The rooms themselves are fairly standard but include everything you need and are cleaned to a high standard each day.
The area has a great selection of restaurants; we didn’t have a single bad meal.
We took advantage of the kids clubs (tots for our 3 year old daughter), she absolutely loved it and didn’t want to leave, even late in the evening sessions (you pay a little extra for these but they are worth it!).
A little later on in the evening Sakis would ensure everybody was watered with several shots.
The next time we go to Zakynthos we will definitely go back here!

We just returned from Alykansas village after 10 nights which wasn't long enough, an it was fantastic. Have seen lots of reviews about dogs!! but we only saw 1.. What we did find a problem was the street sellers the just stand in front of you an still dont move when you say No to them ...
Our room was always tidied daily, all the staff work very hard Zeta in the snack, always made us feel welcome as did the other staff Sakis kept us laced with Ouzo :).. And Gloria the Manageress was always asking if everything was ok...... The pools a great an our kids never wanted to get out of them.. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.. We will return here again without a doubt
