We found out about Vunong through Bisumi tours and they handled our reservation. Seating and set menu orders are limited so you definitely need to make a reservation. Jessica was very warm and welcoming and we enjoyed the traditional Ivatan dishes served in leaves. Everything was delicious and we enjoyed a nice dinner on her porch. Thank you for your hospitality!

We had lunch included at this venue during our island tour with Bisumi Tours.

Outdoor dining in a lovely setting.

It was also our first taste of Ivatan Food.

Not a real fan of this type of cuisine.

The meats cooked in the local leaf were quite chewy and overlooked. The ubud balls were far too garlicky for me. This was served with a turmeric rice.

I was a fan of the paco salad which was made from the local ferns.

Desert was some fried banana.

Vunong is Ivatan for leaf. The rice and viands are packed in the vunong which in English is a leaf of the breadfruit tree. It is much like a binalot. The viands consist of beef tapa, their local meatball, uved, made of banana corm (base of the banana plant) and minced fish, beef or pork, lunyis (salted pork fried in its own lard). The rice is yellow, maybe turmeric was used. It is a bit pricey for PHP300 per balot but it came with bulalo soup and pako salad. The lunyis was hard we couldnt chew it, However, it is a novel experience. You have to make a reservation, It is a house with the courtyard and veranda converted as dining area.

we just got a flyer of this restaurant from the airport. reservation is advised. went there around 6pm and the food was served after a few minutes. they call it vunung. 2 packs of food wrapped using big kabaya leaves. 1 pack contains the turmeric rice, the other pack contains the viands. They also serve yummy salad! Coconut crub can also be ordered (depending on the availability)
