We have been staying in the Equatorial hotel for at least more than a dozen times in the past year due to work commitments in Penang. The Hotel provided us access to the club lounge. We patronise their F&B cutlets and supported them well to the extent that we even organised our business meetings with clients in the hotel.

However we booked a return trip recently in the last few days and they gave us a hard time at check in and finally based on our history of staying with them, the duty manager agreed to provide us with access to the club lounge. When we called to book our room earlier they agreed to the lounge access and they encouraged us to book direct with them. We always enjoyed using the lounge and had breakfast there in next morning. However when we returned for evening cocktails, they had a note which the girl at the lounge reception read to us saying that we had to pay to use the lounge.

We compliant to the managers in charged and they told us clearly and coldly that they had over extended their courtesy to us and we were not welcomed to the hotel if we are not prepared to pay full commercial rates even though they had clearly agreed on this visit to let us use the club lounge. We told then we were so disappointed and the manager Mr Patrick said we can use the club lounge. We wish they can respect us as long term returning loyal customers rather than beggars as we were treated.

What a let down and dissapointment after staying so many times within the last year with them. They clearly don't value long term relationships. We will not stay there in the future.

We've stayed in Equatorial several times and it's our favorite hotel in Penang. The best way to describe the hotel is that "everything works excellently". One of those places that you don't need to call the front desk to ask for things to be done. From the moment the staff get your luggage upon arrival to the point you leave the hotel, it operates smoothly and efficiently. Staff are well trained and communicating in English was easy. Early check in is not a problem and late checkouts are also fine. They are really very accommodating and try their best to make guests happy.

The hotel is about 15-20 minutes from the airport, so perfect after a long flight. They make up for the fact that the hotel is not located in Georgetown by offering regular free shuttle service to Queensbay Mall every day and even to Batu Feringgi and Georgetown on weekends and public holidays. We've used this service several times and felt it was good and ran on time. The hotel itself is beautiful and unlike city hotels in Georgetown are located in a green area near a golf course. The Koi pond and garden adds a nice touch to the surroundings. It has very peaceful and calm ambience all around, perfect place to relax and unwind.

Food in Nada Lama was good, breakfast had a lot of variety and something for everyone. You are really spoilt for choices. Room service food delivery was also good and delivered promptly. Probably the only restaurant that we felt was not up to par was the French restaurant. We wanted to book dinner for our family and asked the staff at the restaurant's reception for the menu and for more information and found that she had very little knowledge of the restaurant's menu, much less French cuisine. Either that, or she had problem communicating in English (probably the only one in the hotel). We wanted to try something new but because of this awkward interaction, decided to have dinner in Nada Lama which was excellent.

The swimming pool was also nice. Towards one end of the pool, they have a cave like formation with a small Jacuzzi pool, table tennis, Foosball with some tables/chairs. Really cool place to hangout.

Overall if you don't need to be right in the middle of Georgetown, this is an excellent hotel. Certainly our pick for our stay in Penang, always.

This hotel is very pretty and is suitable for business travel if you need to be near the airport! It’s not ideal for leisure travelers due to the taxis required to go into George Town. The hotel is quite isolated so you need to get a taxi to shops/restaurants.

They offer a shuttle service but only twice a day... not ideal!

Prices for food and drink are quite expensive here compared to other hotels, so eat and drink out of this hotel!!
The food is ok for Breakfast but again very expensive for what it is. We only eat there for connivence once.

My stay at the Hotel Equatorial Penang was nothing short of amazing! I had a wonderful room on the 9th floor overlooking the golf course and Malaysian sunrises. The room was clean and spacious and well kept. The hotel has everything you could ask for: Very nice restaurants, beautiful pool with waterfalls, gym, spa, nature walk areas, but the highlight of my stay was the staff! The staff at the Equatorial is top notch! From the people out front that first greet you, to the lobby staff, to the housekeeping staff, and especially the restaurant and bar staff! Everyone was wonderful! You can tell when employees are being nice to you because its their job, but the Equatorial Staff genuinely were warm and friendly and seemed to really care about you and your stay there.
I can not recommend this hotel enough!

We enjoyed 2 nights at this hotel.
Perfect location between airport and Georgetown. The hotel shuttle bus was so convenient. Although there was no connecting rooms for my family of 5, we were located next door to each other. Spacious and modern rooms.
The food standard was very good and the staff were keen to please. Pool area was well organised and large pool.
My wife enjoyed the Spa and Wellness facilities.
Really excellent value for money and will go back again.
