A really very odd place, with its mixture of buildings. The working lighthouse is great, especially at dusk; the fort, semaphore tower and ruined abbey around it make up a curious mix of architectural styles and I could have done without a couple of them. The (extensive) hotel we were staying in (with a good bistro and Michelin starred restaurant) added to the mix. Whilst we stood there people began, as if at no signal, staging a medieval siege around us, in full costume. Views out across the sea are great and the quirkiness actually does appeal after a time. Certainly worth a visit if you have't been.

Place to visit during the sunset. Beautiful coast, phare, and old church withtout roof (Andrey Tarkovsky movies athmosphere :D ). There is a small memorial museum dedicated to people who died in the sea. At the end of your trip you can have a seat and take a drink in small bar just behind

Very lucky to discover St Mathieu and it’s light house with a fantastic panorama over the sea and Countryside.
Nice to see by all weathers as the landscape looks different at every hour

The lighthouse and abbey are beautiful. I’ve never visited a place like this and was speechless. Take your time and explore the trails around the abbey and visit the museum too. The guide of the museum is very welcoming and helpful.
