“Didn't Want to Leave”

Our group of 7 adults (all family members) enjoyed 5 days at MayaCala and everyone of us would return in a heartbeat. The home is split into 3 rentals, we rented them all. One couple stayed in the Nest, another couple and a single person in the Casa and 2 single people in the Casita.
The Casa & dining room was where we socialized as there was plenty of room for all of us.
The majority of our time was spent swimming, snorkeling and Kayaking. Some went on a couple bike rides, There were 3 kayaks ( 2 singles & 1 double), 5 boogie boards, 2 bikes and some pool noodles all for our use and we used them all.
The home is absolutely beautiful, everyone gasped upon entering at the expanse, view and decor. We were charmed from the moment we stepped in.
There was good walk in access to the lake, no weeds, a dock and nice grounds.
There was plenty of hot water, drinking water and linens. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of fans if you don't want to use the A/C.
Sally responded immediately to all of our inquiries.
We wanted for nothing.
Thank you, Sally, for allowing us the honour of staying in a corner of your paradise.

“A unique Magical place to Stay!!!!”
Reviewed 11 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Our experience in Mayacala house was wonderful. We found this corner away from the noise and civilization but with all the facilities to stay comfortably. The jewel of this awsome place besides the beautiful sweet Bacalar lagoon are their employees Miguel and his wife we thank deeply for all their atentions.

If you are planning to stay be aware of the fact that the internet signal is weak, and the closest place to buy groceries is about 30 kms away.in the house there are, snorkeling gears bikes and we had a wonderful day in the lagoon with a double kayak that made our day perfect!

“Perfect Getaway nest for Painters/ Birdwatchers!!”
Reviewed 7 August 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Mayacala was exactly what we were hoping to find: a secret, off the beaten track but comfy retreat in the middle of the natural Mayan world. We were happy to have a week and a half to ourselves with only the birds, flora and striking views of the jungle and the lagoon for company.
We will definitely think of coming back, to further explore the coastline of the lagoon, and make daytrips to some of the other rivers and ocean coast, pyramid complexes and dear little Mayan towns.
Keep in mind that a car is essential. We were lucky to book a car out of Playa del Carmen when there was no availability in Chetumal. Plan on doing most of your food shopping before you arrive: esp. for the less mundane things on your food list. Birders! Start an ongoing list to add to!

“Third year in a row, We love Maya Cala!”
Reviewed 25 February 2015 for a stay in February 2015

Without sounding like a broken record, We love staying here! We spend a week in Cozumel, a very social, active and festive time. Then on to Bacalar and Maya Cala for a week of chillin'. It's a very lovely, remote, and beautiful part of Mexico. The villa is secure in a gated community with the nearest neighbor a half mile away. The house and property are well cared for, roomy, well-appointed, with all the conveniences of home. It's quiet here but for the sounds of nature and the stars are incredible. Thanks again Sally, We had a wonderful time. See you in 2016!

“our own private jungle retreat”
Reviewed 20 April 2014 for a stay in March 2014

Looking for a getaway from spring break masses, we found it at Mayacala. Very private location right on Laguna Bacalar. Only 2.5 hour drive from our home base of Akumal. Although a romantic couple shared the house on our visit, (see review below) the two separate units were positioned well and completely separate. All could have their privacy. We were in the Casita, which doesn't have the view of the Casa. Garden view was fine. Four day holiday was with a girl buddy. We each had a bedroom. Wifi kept me in touch with business, but for phone service had to run down the road 5-15 minutes. Canada SAT TV, so we didn't miss Downton Abbey. The birds in the morning were incredible. Even saw chacalacas! Watched a large spider make it's web every evening and roll it back up in the morning. The property manager arranged for a boat to pick us up one morning. Owner, Sally, recommended a visit to Big Mama's at Mahahual 45 minute drive away. Ricardo treated us like royalty. Not to be missed. Come prepared to cook as there are not any nearby dining options. We used the grill. Will definitely visit again.
