Arrived to a cheery reception. Initially booked in to have breakfast in the morning, but, changed our mind later. Room was clean and comfortable. Single lounge chair makes farting sounds when you move on it haha. As on other reviews, soundproofing issues. Can hear doors being closed down the hall. Inconsiderate guests, but, that's not Mercure's fault. Great wifi! Just be sure you don't leave our the first 'R' when entering the password. It's a trick of the eye, and the darling receptionist did advise that is one thing most guests have a problem with. Thank you to the understanding receptionist who made me realise this. Not sure if it was the same receptionist, but, Britney/Brittany was lovely and addressed the issue of the screaming children outside at night constantly saying goodnight to their relatives. Some parents, I tell you!
Dinner in the restaurant:
My main was delicious. The salmon with asparagus rice. Hubby and bubby ordered the "glazed" pork. No glaze, dry and sadly cold. We were informed by the waitress that they were short a staff member in the kitchen. The waitresses were absolutely gorgeous, apologetic over the pork dish and offered a free drink. We declined, and thanked her anyway. Stay away from the meringue dessert and the brulee. The meringue is not the meringue you would expect, and the taste beyond bland. My brulee, sorry, near-soup like dessert, well, that explains itself, served with sliver of 'white Christmas-like' wedge. The very thin crunch on the brulee was the highlight of the dish. Nice view from the restaurant, pool undergoing renovation. It's winter, so who cares anyway. The room itself was great. No roaches as per other reviews. Good kettle. The bathroom is a slight step back in time. When you sit on the dunny, accessing the toilet paper can be a little bit of a trial. Don't like the bi-fold doors to the bathroom. If you are sitting on the dunny, and someone else wants to come in (as can be with some families) they'll knock you right into the legs. Would suggest sliding doors? Don't understand the shower screen, doesn't really stop any water getting out. Huge crack in the sink, but, the place is undergoing renovation. But, if you didn't read the sign about that above the stairs in reception, you really wouldn't realise. We had room 107, great to park right outside. The room the night before in Coffs Harbour was horrible, concrete pillows, upstairs, so, had to lug our heavy luggage. So, this was a beautiful blessing. Access both to outside and inside. Fan in the bathroom doesn't really do much. Hubby (a tradie) checked it and found it has never been cleaned. So, majorly blocked. Again, as on other reviews I read whilst here, mould in the bathroom (cleaning staff need to be reviewed), paint peeled off the bathroom doors and outside access door. See pictures I've attached. Be super careful when stepping out of the shower/bath, it's somewhat a high drop. All in all though, it's a great stay, don't eat here though. Regarding the breakfast we were to 'enjoy', we decided against it after the dinner we endured.
