“Great farm experience for little - and big - ones”
Reviewed April 30, 2017 for a stay in April 2017

Other reviewers have said what there is to say: the accommodation is very comfortable with fully equipped kitchen. The highlight(s) of each day were the morning and evening feeding sessions: hand-feeding the chickens (and collecting the eggs), sheep and guinea pigs, and helping with feeding (and mucking out) the pigs. The big bonus for us was the arrival of a brood of piglets that provided a lot of hands-on time. Graham is very focused on giving the children a good experience, and is ever-smiling.

So, definitely stay here (or one of the other cottages on site) - here are just a few thoughts that you might find useful:
- It is deep in the country - I suggest you get in touch with the owners for the best route. You satnav will take you up some narrow lanes.
- There was more enough dishwasher, washing up, etc stuff to get us through the week. There are a number of major supermarkets 3 or 4 miles away and you pass them (especially ASDA) every time you head to the local beaches. We pre-ordered a delivery from Tesco that arrived promptly.
- Make sure you look at the layout of the accommodation. There is an en-suite double and a twin which are next to the bathroom, but the single room is the other side of the living area. Work out ahead who will sleep where.
- The pool doesn't seem inviting as you need to get under a perspex hood but it is surprisingly large and pleasant once you're inside. The pool IS warm although it might not feel so if the weather is hot. The water is always the same temperature - it is the air temp under the canopy that varies depending on the sun.
- The best place we ate was the Chichester Arms in Bishops Lawton.
- The reptile rescue centre is only a mile down the road.

“Wonderful, rural experience for kids!”
Reviewed September 3, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We have just spent a week in the Linhay at Lower Hearson Farm, with our three kids aged 9-12, along with their cousins who stayed the Grain Store.
The accommodation has everything you could need for a weeks holiday, but the real draw is the rural, animal experience.

The kids were invited every morning and evening to feed the chickens and pigs. They held the Guinea pigs each day and waddled after the ducks roaming around the farm!
The covered, heated pool was a hit, as was the play barn with its table football, two pool tables, table tennis and darts board. There was also a big trampoline, swings and slide in the grounds too.
Graeme was a great host and we would recommend Lower Hearson Farm to families of all ages!

“Fantastic family holiday, friendly and fun farm, and great location”
Reviewed June 30, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

The Linhay is a really comfortable and well-equipped cottage. It has everything you'd expect from a self-catering cottage. The location is excellent, about half an hour to loads of places (even a rainy week in June we weren't bored, and visited country houses, sheep world, beaches, places to walk...).

What really makes this special is Farmer Graeme! Our toddler loved feeding the animals every morning and Graeme's patience and friendly nature really made us feel welcome and part of the farm. The amenities on site are great. We loved the indoor pool and it was great to have outdoor play equipment for our little one.

We will be going back to the farm again as the holiday was so fun and relaxing and there is so much more to see in north Devon.

“Fabulous, From Start to Finish - A must stay vacation for all ages”
Reviewed October 11, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We booked The Finlay at Lower Hearson Farm for a stay in September and on our arrival were warmly welcomed and shown to our accommodation and around the farm and the facilities.

We were delighted with the cottage; the space and furnishings were superb and the amenities (dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, etc) of the fully equipped kitchen were another huge bonus.

Each morning and afternoon we had the chance to help out with feeding the animals (piglets, pigs, sheep and chickens). Our eldest son, who is three years old, was really engaged by Farmer Graeme, who allowed the children to feed all the animals and never rushed or curtailed any of the children’s’ questions or time, happily talking at any level about farm life.

Our weeks stay was the best family holiday we have had (we shall certainly be returning next year) and when we left we all felt like we were saying goodbye to a friend.

“Even better than I possibly imagined staying at a farm would be”

Had a brilliant week here staying in The Linhay, a fully equipped charming converted stable. My children loved helping to feed the animals in the morning and evening, loved playing around the farm, loved the swimming pool, loved meeting the children of all the other families. I myself loved the baby chicks! Farmer Graham was very kind, nothing was too much trouble and made us feel v welcome. I had always wanted to have a holiday on a farm while the children were still young and this fulfilled all my expectations and more. Would unreservedly recommend this place to anyone with the same holiday dream.

“Fantastic week in a lovely setting”
Reviewed July 24, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Our second stay at lower hears on farm as we loved it so much the first time, and again we weren't disappointed. Accommodation is clean and to a high standard, and our two young boys loved feeding the animals twice a day with farmer Graeme (who is brilliant with the kids) and had the added bonus of the baby piglets! Wellies are a must! Looking forward to goin back again at some time in the future.
