We have just returned from a 10 day stay at the Dusit Laguna in Phuket and I would like to take this opportunity to give a factual, and I believe, completely accurate review of this hotel.
I have rarely seen so many diverse reports on a single hotel as I have seen in Trip Advisor on the Dusit. To be perfectly honest, having read some of them I was seriously contemplating changing my booking to the Marriott further up the coast. I am so glad I didn’t!!
The Dusit is the oldest of the Laguna complex of hotels and is in the prime position in terms of the beach. Other reports have described the rooms as being worn and tired and small. Well, we stayed in both a Laguna and beach facing deluxe room so I feel qualified to comment on both.
The rooms are being upgraded, the Laguna room we had was pre upgrade, the beach post upgrade. I would say that the pre upgraded rooms are good whilst the post upgrade is great. As far as room size is concerned, I suppose it’s fair to say that they are adequate to good, with the bathrooms being definitely a good size in the upgraded rooms. The rest of the hotel is of a very high standard with wonderful restaurants (especially the Thai and Italian) and really exceptional staff. They are right up there with the best I have experienced in Thailand (which means the best anywhere).
There are great beach restaurants a few minutes walk down the beach (try Tiks) and at the entrance to the complex of hotels there are several really good quality places to eat.
We looked around the Sheraton and I was not impressed. It was the usual huge concrete resort that you might find at Disney, no soul and far too big.
I would highly recommend the Dusit Laguna and we will probably be back next year for a second visit, which is not something we normally do.More
