Visited this resort 8 years ago. It was in a tranquil location with very limited people and gorgeous waters. Was looking forward to visiting again only to be disappointed in the horde of day-trippers now crowding at the beach right in front of the resort.

The cherry on the cake came when we met with horrible service, apparently from a self-acclaimed luxury resort. The lock at our door ran out of battery and the key card didn't work. It took us running up and down the slope to reception more than 2 times before they decided to send someone to take a look. We waited again outside our villa. It took 45 mins to resolve and we were stuck outside our villa just waiting. Seems like little urgency was taken to deal with an exceptional situation. But the staff was friendly and did greet us with a smile when he came to change the battery on the lock.

My friend had issues entering the gym as they said he didn't have the right type of shoes. Again this was not stated on the conditions of use. Otherwise we would have brought proper gym shoes.

The worst came on the final day during breakfast. We took a table near the window indoors. A server named MONICA, came and said we are not allowed to sit there as we are only a party of 2. I asked whether there are any families as the restaurant was very empty. She said there will be people who will come and she was rude. Strangely, there were 2 Caucasians who were also sitting at the next table and they were here before us who were not re-seated. Maybe we are Asians and we cannot help but feel that Racism was involved. The tables were never filled up in the end. What a shocker service from a staff in a Luxury resort.

We stayed 4D3N in this resort. It will be tough for me to pay this kind of prices to visit this resort again. I really love the location of this place. The waters are clear with tons of marine life. It is a great pity!

Dear KLM1212

Warm greetings from The Racha.

It is truly disturbing to have read your review and I deeply regret that you have to encounter some disturbing issues during your recent stay here.
While the matter of the day-trippers coming to the beautiful beach right in front of the hotel is beyond the hotel's control, I must truly apologise for any short-comings from our staff which are uncalled for, or should have been explained clearly and courteously to you. The staffs concerned have been informed and corrected and measures been taken to ensure that these do not happen again.

We always strive to please our guests and to ensure that they have an enjoyable and memorable stay. I hope you will consider a trip here again and please do contact me personally should you have plans for a next visit.

Warm regards,
Devan Bhaskaran.
General Manager.

We, as couple, did stay for 15 days, which is rather long - most guest use the Racha as short stay resort, but for long stay guests, you get some extras and attention.
Besides a well-received courtesy upgrade we used different FREE offerings,
• Daily Newspaper
• Luxury transport to the Big Island Phuket, several times and Airport transfer,
• Sport facilities, like two times Yoga,
• Bottled Water, bottle of Red Wine and excellent Coffee,
• Outdoor snorkeling gear, the bay is perfect for snorkeling.
• Dinner of Choice, any restaurant set menu for two
Guest structure is well balanced by all ages and from all over the world America, Europe and Asia.
We had very Positive attention by all! employees, very friendly and supportive, like a fully motivated family.
Ask me about the difference to other Resorts it will be “the People”!
Very thoughtful and pro-active: at the Egg Station, with Fruits, our special requested bed sheets and the move.
We always got the full attention of the entire staff and did not see any employee play on their Phone, NO Mobile use at all!
Started at the welcome Reception, ended with a very friendly check-out chat - and everything in between.
Any request, wish or idea was solved within no time.
Great have been the Beach options and distribution mix - beach, show pool and backside beach!
In addition we did use the Yoga twice, that is why we choose the resort and have been extended the quality stay.
Our Deluxe Bungalow size and interior was huge and had all needed, water and towels, WIFI and AC/fan.
The Breakfast and dinner selection in the restaurant was excellent and always surprising, especially we could order add-on's as well.
In general the resort is very quiet and very well designed, very relaxing and perfect to recharge!
The Batok Beach is unique in water and location, but also overcrowded…see my report on Raya Bay separately.
We had a full 100% relaxed vacation, and will come back next time.

Room Tip: 211 quiet, clean and separate - a dream

The Racha Resort is spectacular. A paradise. Each room is its own villa with veranda and refreshing outside shower, palatial bathroom inside and a beautiful king size bed. It's a cool, spacious gorgeous room made up of dark real and white marble. You can even choose the scent of your room, jasmine or lemongrass. The discreet villas nestle in coconut palms and lush vegetation to butterflies, birds and the occasional impressive lizard! White sand, turquoise sea with fish a plenty to snorkel around. Mr Devan Bhaskaran the general manager and his team are kind and courteous. Excellent transfers to and from the hotel. Don't miss delicious omelettes for breakfast or salads for lunch on the beach. Highly recommended, a tranquil stay in Thailand.

Racha island is stunning. Beautiful white-sand beaches, pristine turquoise waters.
But beware!
Because of it’s proximity to Phuket, hordes of boats with (mostly Chinese) day-visitors overwhelm the place from 10:30 till 4pm.
The seeming paradise turns into a zoo with crowds both in the sea and on the beach.

So, if you want relaxation & privacy avoid this place altogether.

The resort itself is quite nice with decent facilities (2 pools, tennis courts, spa, gym, etc.) the only (quite major) let down is the food. One would hope being in Thailand, great, reasonably priced food would be plentiful but unfortunately, our experience was underwhelming. The low point for us was Easter buffet dinner consisting mainly of cold, dry chewy meats - not something you’d expect at 1500B... The fine dining restaurant was better (though not really fine dining experience).
Thai curries at the beach restaurant were ok but again - you could get much much better standards for lower prices elsewhere.

Dear AlenaRossini

Thank you for staying at The Racha and for sharing your experience.

We always make it a point to inform all our guests during their booking confirmation so that they are fully aware and prepared to share this beautiful island with the day-trippers upon their check-in on the island. The boundaries of the resort are cordoned off and hotel guests can relax and have their own privacy within the huge surroundings of the hotel. The law in Thailand is such that all beaches are public space and therefore the resort has no control over the beach in front of the hotel. However, hotel guests usually have the beach and the sea to themselves in the early hours as well as the evenings.

It is truly disappointing to learn that you have not enjoyed the food served here especially during the Easter buffet. Our Chef and Food&Beverage Manager always meet and chat with the guests during meals to receive their feedback and to ensure that their meal experience is satisfactory.

Overall we are disappointed that we did not live up to your expectations as we always strive to make our guests happy and leave with wonderful memories of The Racha

We hope to look forward to seeing you the near future.

Best regards,
Devan Bhaskaran.
General Manager.

Before my girlfriend and me booked the 5 nights (Deluxe Villa) in the racha resort I read carefully all the full-bodied promises on the racha homepage "feel-good oasis for body and mind" and so on. But indeed yes it is! The small lovely details are making this place to this feel-good oasis who sprays unforgettable memories for eternity . For example, at the check in we could choose a room fragrance. Never had this before at a 5 star resort. And what happened inside the room? Not only the room smelled of lemongrass by a cute candle burner but also the body lotion, shower gel and conditioner! Great idea! Housekeeping is 2-3 times a day. The fantastic outdoor rainfall shower surrounded by rich green we are still missing here in cold Germany. The service was great except 1 evening at the sunset beach restaurant. But I am not that strict guy same many other upper class people carrying their nose up higher than the sky and expecting the impossible. Before you judge you must understand the thai culture. They are always giving you a smile even then when they do not understand you ;-) tell them your wish/order twice in different easy words if you would like to make it sure. And smile back, please, it's more easier and enjoyable than beeing angry! The breakfast buffet and the dinner at the beach were just perfect! Mr. Goh made our day. He stand out from the crowd and impressed with courtesy+attention. And don't miss the invitation to the star deck. They offer small snacks, wine and a breathtaking view to the sunset! You have also the opportunity to talk with the managers. Hey laura, thank you very much for the wonderful pics&memories! Well, there is so much to say, the white sand beach and the clear turquoise water are the best I have ever seen in Thailand. There is just Koh Lipe and Similan Islands who are similar to it. But on Similan Islands you can not stay over night and Koh Lipe has a big waste problem as well as straying dogs everywhere. And do not be afraid of the day tourists. In the morning till 10.30am and in the afternoon from 4pm till sunset you are almost alone at the dream beach. So enjoy the good mood and people at day time because in the evening it's stone-dead! My girlfriend an me were wondering: where are the holiday makers?! There was a life band playing in the beautiful open air Club Del Mar but nobody there around 9.30pm! Yes, we were there for relaxing too but did not expect to die in loneliness so early in the evening :-D

Thanks to all who made this stay to a great experience for us. Last but not least I would like to mention Monika. This lovely polish lady was so helpful and funny. We appreciate your kindness very much! Happy natures like you are the reason why we will return! :-)

Kind regards

Matthias
