Beloved Playa Mujeres
Ranked #1 of 7 Hotels in Playa Mujeres
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 15 August 2012

We recently stayed at The Beloved hotel from 7/25-8/1 with a large family, four different groups, 11 people total. We were very impressed with this hotel. At times, it felt like we were the only people there, which is so unique and different to other hotels that are AI.

I personally have stayed next door at the Excellence Playa Mujeres during my honeymoon last year in September 2011. We chose the Beloved Hotel as they do allow children at the hotel (one of the families we were traveling with had older children, 15 and 12). Rooms are exactly the same as the Excellence next door, with the same bathrooms and showers. We found that as long as you draped a towel over the front shower door, it provided enough privacy for those traveling as a family. Mini bar and bottles of alcohol were a great addition and found that if you ask nicely, you can exchange some of the bottles of alcohol to your preference (two of our groups exchanged Johnny Walker with Crown Royal, our room exchanged Johnny Walker for Jack Daniels)

Food overall was very good. I would say personally, I prefer the food at the Beloved vs the food at Excellence Playa Mujeres. There were many options at Lupita and Isla Grill, which were our favories.. FYI- they are also still offering the night pass over to EPM if you book more than 7 nights. We went to go see the MJ show and ate at the Lobster House, which our group enjoyed. Younger kids stayed behind with their parents.

Activities and things to do around the hotel were great, perfect for a low key vacation. While there was nightly activites (we enjoyed the bonfire on the beach with the DJ) the resort gets very quiet around 11:00 pm.. We enjoyed meeting up at the Lupita Lounge for cocktails, sushi and some light music around 6:00. Around 7:00 we would go to dinner. After dinner we would go back to Lupita Lounge for some more cocktails and dancing. The DJ was great! We did bring a CD with song selections from each person traveling within our group and the DJ was happy to play the CD, mixing it as he went along. After 9:30 or so, kids were gone and most of the adults were as well. It seemed like we were the only ones at the lounge after 9:45 or so. To address kids at the resort, yes, there are kids, and they were mostly under the age of 10. The children were well behaved. When we did see children crying or fussing, it was usually because the parents were choosing not to address it.

We also booked an excursion through one of the tour groups, which was outstanding. We booked a private catamaran that took us snorkeling, swimming with the dolphins, and on a little tour of Isla Mujeres. By far, some of the best money we spent. Since we were traveling with a large group, they gave us a great price for all three things. Our guide, was extremely accomodating, even offering that if we wanted to go somewhere specific (we wanted to go to Playa Norte on Isla Mujeres) the catamaran would take us there.

Finally, what makes this resort so great, is the staff. I've never seen so many people who seem to really enjoy what they do. Special thanks to Alex, Raquel, Edgar, Conception, Pablo, and so many others. We saw Alex as we were sitting in one of the groups casista pools, walking late one afternoon and called him over just to say hi. He offered to go get us a round of drinks, even though this was not his assigned "area". While we were conversing, he mentioned he was about to leave in 10 minutes and he was going to be off for the weekend and we wished him well. Without asking, as his shift was ENDING or was already OVER, he brought us another entire round of drinks, memorizing exactly what each of us had ordered the time before. THAT is outstanding customer service. We expected to tip and did tip when the service was excellent.. and for them, that was nearly every time. I can imagine that a group of 11 people, most who have had drinks throughout the day can be kind of overwhelming, but they seemed genuinely happy to be helping us. It takes very special and talented people to serve others, and we found that this staff operated well above expecations. I would venture to say better than most of the service I get here in the US.

Part of our group also played Golf, and went to the Spa, each which were great experiences as well. Spa was very nice. Aqua Viva treatment was unique and added something extra that made the services well worth the price. I do recommend waiting until you are at the resort to book your service. I found that the spa deals of the day were better than the 20% pre booking discount (unless you are wanting something specific)

Overall, I would highly recommend this resort. If you love and need to have nightlife that ventures beyond 11:00 pm, you might want to check out EPM, which offers many more options as far as bars and social events. If you are looking for a low key, relaxing and vacation to reconnect with family and friends, this will be a great choice for you.

Room Tip: Close your shades during the day, it will help keep the room cooler.

Stayed at the Beloved early 2012. Best all-inclusive, hands down ! Forget Cuba, Dominican Republic and tacky Cancun, this is the best place to relax. Food is amazing ! Infinty pool and day beds incredible. Nice overall beach. Small 100-room complex, very boutique style. Room service is amazing. Turn down service twice a day.... We were 2 couples in early 30's and it was an amazing vacation. When you get to the airport, there's usually 1 or 2 couple going to the same place and not a bus full.... Very exclusive !!! Paid 1800$ per person with flght included. At that price, it's unbeatable. oh yeah, i Forgot the y even have shisha !!! oh yeah !!!

I can not say enough for the wonderful time there. The service should be called ten stars instead of five. The rooms were spacious and very clean, The food was fantastic and the servers explained everything we ate. We are planning to return next year because of the treatment we received. PS room stuff was just fab as well!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: all the rooms are great but main building one rooms face the ocean and the entire resort.

My family and I came back from vacation a week ago and we still cannot finish sharing our wonderful experience with everyone. The Beloved Hotel is beautiful and the staff is soooo nice. We got the all-inclusive deal which is deff the way to go, they offer unlimited drinks, food and room service, you cannot beat that! My kids, ages 7 & 8 are looking forward to going back already. They really enjoyed their time at the kids club w/Africa & Wendy who worked with them on making crafts and kept them very entertained. This was our first time in Cancun and we have no complaints, the servers, Fredy, Luis, Ivan,Susana, Hipolito and even the lifeguard David where all very accomodating and always willing to please. I was really worried when we got to the hotel because check in was at 3 and we arrived at 10:30am but the concierge was quick to put us at ease by offering a hospitality suite for an hour so that we could change into our swimsuits and begin enjoying the facility, they even stored our baggage for us. This was the same for check out time, which is at noon and we were not being picked up for the airport until 5....All in all the tips I have for people that will be traveling there are : Tip 1. Bring plenty of dollar bills for tipping, the staff at the hotel and even tour parks really work hard and deserve to be compensated. Tip 2. Bring biodegradable sun screen if you are visiting any of the attractions since this is all they allow, they will check your bags and will not let the regular stuff in. Make sure you bring sun screen, it is very expensive here, a bottle of regular coppertone was $38 dollars!!!! I also recommend aloe gel, it really soothes the skin after time in the sun and prevents painful sunburn. Tip 3. You don't have to bring snorkeling gear to visit the parks, they all have them for you to use with a yours to keep breathing tube. Tip 4. If you have small children that cannot swim I would recommend bringing your own life jacket for use at the hotel since they don't really stock them, we were lucky the lifeguard had one that fit my son....Last Tip 5. Xcaret includes a lot of walking and its an all day event so if you plan to go here I would recommend to do it in the middle of your stay so you can relax before and after. Overall we really enjoyed our vacation, the staff at the hotel made it very enjoyable, we felt very safe, and it was like PARADISE.

Room Tip: Swim Up Rooms are GREAT! We had direct access to the pool, a little lounge area, close to reception...

My wife and I just returned from our honeymoon at The Beloved Hotel (or La Amada). From the moment we arrived it was evident that service was big with the resort and we received incredible service the entire time. The food was so good and we were always able to find incredible food at all the restaurants. The Isla Grill was probably our favorite for Dinner and the gorgeous view on a nice night was wonderful. Abel at the Isla Grill was so kind and took the time to always talk to us and make sure we were enjoying our meal there. We also loved the Lupita Lounge and got drinks either before or after dinner there every night. Guillermo was the head bartender at the Lupita Lounge and he makes great drinks and is always nice and having a good time. Also the sushi is great there too. The only real problem we had was that I brought my Discover Card which is not taken hardly anywhere in Mexico, so make sure and always bring Visa, and we had to mainly rely on the cash that we brought with us. The hotel is located a little north of Cancun and isn't by any big party area, which was perfect for what we wanted. It is a pretty small resort and we never had any problem finding a table at a restaurant which was really nive. Another side note, is that we were definitely confused about tipping, because clearly on their website is says that all gratuities are included. We saw some people tip and we saw some who didn't, and if it wasn't for our money situation we probably have tipped because the service was so good. But we didn't tip at all at the resort and we still got the best service and they never said anything to us or served us poorly even after we had the same people help us many times. All in all this was such a relaxing honeymoon and we will be going back to The Beloved without a doubt!

Literally all-inclusive...
Mini-bar contents which includes large bottles of hard liquor, soft drinks, snacks, wine and bottled water are all free and restocked daily.

Customer service, wherever we went, was excellent. Every employee passing by greeted us with a friendly "Hola".

Exterior and interior hotel design is beautiful. Everything is granite!! We were offered a free upgrade to a plunge pool beachfront suite. Staff attention to and appreciation for detail is noticeable. There are two cleaning services per day, one in the AM and one turn-down service in the evening. They leave you with a small ribboned pouch filled with new scents each day (ie. coffee beans) after cleaning the room.

Food, for the most part was excellent. There are four restaurants and they are both very clean, beautiful and have good ambience. Frequent live music throughout the different restaurants.
Room service is offered 24 hours and is also included (you have to tip the waiter of course). This service also includes beach service where you can order snacks and drinks at the beach while you are lying there enjoying the caribbean sun and the ocean :)

My husband and I also appreciated that security was good. There are two giant gates separated by 1km of green path and guarded by security guards to actually reach the lobby of the hotel.

Some negatives:
-We could sometimes hear the guests on the floor above us.
-Spa service is much too expensive compared to the actual service. For example, my husband and I paid 120 US for the luxury couple manicure plus 10US add on to include chocolate-dipped strawberries and champagne. The spa agents were not very good in terms of skill. They were not social at all; kept speaking in Spanish to each other over us throughout the whole 50 minute service. Nail polish selection was very limited. The spa manicure equipment was not up to date considering the price and the "luxury" spa service they advertise. The champagne and strawberries (four strawberries to be exact) were offered 5 minutes before the lady started putting on nail polish, so there really wasn't enough time to eat before the actually 50 minute session ended.

-Downside to location is that it is quite far from all the activity areas (about a 1.45-2 hr drive), however upside is that it is quiet and not very populated. Mostly couples and or families with little to teenage children. My husband and I appreciated that there weren't loud, obnoxious or immature party-goer type guests.

Room Tip: If you get the 1st floor corner beachfront suites with the plunge pool, you do not have any privacy...
