Welcome was great, everthing else just got better, Michelin star standard food at reasonable prices, boutique bedroom and bathroom, friendy staff, management/owners and a wonderful atmosphere, tempted not to send review as I would like to keep this gem a secret.

Room Tip: I have now stayed twice, different rooms, both excellent.

This is a great pub with rooms and is exceptionally dog friendly right down to the "borrow me" dog baskets, good walks on the door, great food, good cask beer and friendly owners and staff. (I'm being mean docking one star for location as its on a fairly busy B road but there are public foot paths 150 yards in each direction that take you the half mile to 'the common').

The food and wine list are exemplary and the staff couldn't be friendlier....as for the price its excellent especially if you go mid week (I'm guessing the people who say this place is overpriced must be used to paying Youth Hostel rates!). Our pup was supremely well treated right down to lamb bone he got on our second night stay. He slept blissfully under the table, dreaming of all his long walks, whilst we ate a great dinner.

So good we've booked again....see you in a few weeks folks!

Room Tip: They're all pretty nice....

Stayed on a Saturday night at the Ragged Cot. The room stank of blocked drain, the toilet roll holder was coming off the wall and one of the bedside lamp had no bulb. On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable and the staff helpful. On the whole, I still think that it is overpriced.

We had an excellent time over New Year in the Ragged Cot. The place is a kind of gastro pub with dining area and bar with tables. Then there are the bedrooms at the back which are quiet. The room we stayed in was cosy and warm with twin beds. The linen was fresh and clean, the pillows soft and the beds very comfy. The bathroom had a great shower and was tiled and clean and there was free White Company soaps etc all very lovely. The food was delicious, excellent evening dinner with lots of meat choices, great fabulous breakfasts with heaps of smoked salmon and eggs. We celebrated with bottles of Cava which they sell by the glass. I would definately recommend the Ragged Cot if you want very good food and comfy bedrooms. The Ragged Cot is not in the actual village of Minchinhampton but is situated on a busy road about 15 minutes walk away. This might not suit everyone. The pub is completely dog friendly and they give the dogs baskets to lie in next to the table whilst the owners are dining. Amazing.

Another overnight stay. Excellent Dinner and breakfast. Room more than adequate . The traditional pub atmosphere ( except clean tidy and welcoming). Lots of local accents, wellies and dogs in the bar, wonderful. Beautiful part of England. The food is locally sourced and very high standard. Rooms clean fresh and well serviced. Highly recommended for a piece of English experience. The Kir Royale was on a par with the red wine and Guiness. The food for 4 adults and 2 young boys was to be commended.

Room Tip: Bigger is always better

We stayed here in mid-November, and initially it looked quite interesting, with the rooms named after Penguin books and a copy of the book in each room. Quaint. But if you're going to do things like that, you need to get the basics right first.
Firstly, there was no bath, only a shower, which for the price we'd paid, didn't seem right. The shower sprayed water all over the floor, and the temperature was impossible to regulate without freezing or scalding.
It was impossible to use the hotel phone to call the outside world, and there was no payphone downstairs either, which was very inconvenient - not everyone has a functional mobile phone.
One of the windows in my room was open when I arrived so it was very cold, and it was hard to get it closed, as the frame was broken. The rug by the bed was grubby.
We were excited to find a DVD player in the room, (which hadn't even been advertised), but the one in my friend's room didn't work. The heating system was very noisy, and my friend's room "The Rainbow" was worse than mine - she must have been right near the boiler because she barely got a wink of sleep.
The restaurant has dead animal heads on the walls.
The menus weren't even printed when we went to eat. Service was very slow, and there was only one vegetarian option as a main course, and no vegetarian starter.
I decided to have a side-order as my main course - Broccoli Gratin. It took ages to arrive, and yet the broccoli was so raw I could barely cut it with a knife. The thrice-baked chips were the only bright spot for me.
At breakfast they served lovely home-made bread, but again, it took nearly an hour just to get tea and toast. On the whole, it was very poor value for money.
I did like that they allow dogs there, though I don't have one myself.

Room Tip: Don't pick "The Rainbow" or the one next to it - "Strawberry Roan." If you...

OK, the location is the the Cotswold's but at £95 a night I was disappointed. There was a warm welcome so it's not all bad. I waited for my room with an expensive filter coffee (£4.10) I didn't know coffee was an endangered species. I found the room was quite small with heaps of dust upon most surfaces. There was plenty of hot water so the shower was good with lots of their own shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. I was also given an ironing board and iron which was good but there wasn't one in the room as standard. The cooked breakfast the following morning was Ok but far from the best I've ever had. Would I stay there again, maybe?
